The heavy front door of Halliwell Manor creaks shut behind Nevel, Neil, and me. Dust motes dance in the afternoon light filtering through the stained glass, illuminating the familiar foyer. Familiar, yet… different. It’s ours now. The air smells of lemon polish and something else, something ancient and magical, clinging to the very walls. "So," I say, clapping my hands together. "Whose room is haunted?" Neil rolls his eyes, already heading for the grand staircase. "Very funny, Nico. I call the attic." Nevel slings an arm around my shoulder, a grin splitting his face. "Race you to the kitchen? I'm starving." We take off, the sound of our laughter echoing through the silent house. The kitchen is exactly as I remember it: blue and white tiles, copper pots hanging from the ceiling, the round wooden table where countless family dinners unfolded. Nevel throws open the fridge, peering inside. "Not much here. Guess we're ordering pizza for our first night." "Pizza sounds good," I agree, leaning against the counter. "But first, we need to figure out the whole demon-fighting thing. Any idea where the Book of Shadows is?" Neil saunters in, already halfway through a bag of chips he found in the pantry. "Living room, behind the loose brick in the fireplace, obviously." I raise an eyebrow. "Obviously? How do you know that?" He shrugs, mouth full. "Aunt Piper told me. Said it was the first place any self-respecting demon would look." We gather in the living room, the familiar scent of old paper and dried herbs rising as Neil pulls the Book of Shadows from its hiding place. The leather cover is worn, the pages filled with elegant script and intricate drawings. "Alright," I say, flipping through the brittle pages. "Let's see what kind of trouble we can get into." A sudden gust of wind rattles the windows, and the temperature in the room drops noticeably. The flame in the fireplace flickers, casting long, dancing shadows on the walls. Neil looks up from the book, a flicker of concern in his eyes. Nevel stops munching on his chips, an uneasy expression on his face. The air thickens, charged with a strange energy. The shadows deepen, swirling around us like a living thing. From somewhere deep within the house, a floorboard creaks.

"Neil! Nevel!" I shout, my voice echoing through the house, cutting through the unnatural chill. "Up here, now!" They appear in the doorway, Neil still clutching his chips, Nevel looking wary. "Neil! Nevel!" I shout, my voice echoing through the house, cutting through the unnatural chill. "Up here, now!" They appear in the doorway, Neil still clutching his chips, Nevel looking wary. "What's going on?" Neil asks, his voice tight. "I don't know," I admit, "but something's definitely not right." I point to the swirling shadows, the flickering flame in the fireplace. "Feel that? The temperature just dropped ten degrees." Nevel shivers, pulling his jacket tighter around him. "Okay, yeah, I feel it. What do we do?" I glance at the Book of Shadows, still open in my hands. "Well, this is supposed to tell us how to fight demons, right? Let's see if we can find anything about… whatever this is." We huddle together, poring over the ancient text. The pages seem to blur before my eyes, the elegant script suddenly illegible. A headache pounds behind my temples, a sharp, insistent throb. "I can't focus," I mutter, rubbing my eyes. "It's like the words are moving." Neil takes the book from me, his brow furrowed in concentration. "Maybe it's trying to protect itself. Aunt Piper always said the book had a mind of its own." He flips through the pages, his lips moving as he silently reads. Suddenly, he stops, his eyes widening. "Wait a minute… I think I found something." He points to a passage written in faded ink, a drawing of a grotesque, shadowy figure beside it. " 'The Air Demon. Summoned by fear, strengthened by doubt. Weakened by courage, banished by unity.'" "Air Demon?" Nevel repeats, his voice laced with disbelief. "Seriously? Sounds like something out of a cheesy horror movie." "Don't underestimate it," I warn, my gaze sweeping across the room, tracking the movement of the shadows. "Fear and doubt… that's exactly what we're feeling right now." I take a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. "We need to focus. We need to be… united." Easier said than done, I think, glancing at my cousins. We've known each other our whole lives, but we've never faced anything like this before. Can we really pull this off? Can we truly become the Charmed Ones? The shadows writhe, growing darker, pressing in on us. The air crackles with energy, raising the hairs on the back of my neck. A low, guttural growl echoes through the room, and the temperature plummets again. Neil shoves the book back into my hands, his face pale. "I think it's time for Plan B." Plan B? We don't have a Plan B. Unless, of course, Plan B is figuring out how to vanquish a demon with a half-eaten bag of chips and a prayer. As if in answer, the shadows coalesce in the center of the room, forming a swirling vortex of darkness. A pair of glowing red eyes open within the vortex, burning with malevolent intent. The air demon has arrived. Neil and Nevel look at me, waiting for a command, their faces etched with a mixture of fear and determination.

Time seems to slow as the vortex of darkness solidifies into a vaguely humanoid form. The red eyes burn into me, and a wave of bone-chilling air washes over us. Fear, cold and sharp, pierces me. But beneath it, a flicker of determination ignites. I am a Halliwell, damn it. I will not be ruled by fear. I raise my hands, focusing all my will, all my power, on the swirling mass of darkness. "I freeze you!" I shout, the words echoing in the suddenly silent room. A wave of icy energy erupts from my hands, blasting towards the demon. The air crackles, and frost instantly forms on the walls, the furniture, even Neil's half-eaten bag of chips. The demonic form shudders as the cold washes over it, the swirling shadows slowing, solidifying. For a moment, I think it's working. I can feel the demon's power waning, its malevolent energy faltering. But the victory is fleeting. The demon roars, a sound that seems to tear through the very air, and the ice begins to crack. Red light flares within the frozen form, growing brighter, hotter. With a final, earth-shattering burst, the ice shatters, sending shards flying across the room. The demon is free. I stumble back, gasping for breath, my body drained. The effort of freezing the demon, even for that short time, has taken its toll. I can feel the demon's gaze on me, a palpable weight pressing down on my chest. It knows I'm the one who tried to stop it, the one who poses the greatest threat. "Nico!" Neil shouts, his voice filled with alarm. He grabs my arm, pulling me behind him. Nevel steps forward, his eyes blazing with a newfound resolve. "Okay, cheesy horror movie or not," he says, his voice surprisingly steady, "this thing's going down." He raises his hands, focusing his energy. A shimmering light forms around him, a protective shield against the demon's dark power. Neil glances at me, his expression grim. "We need a spell, Nico. Something powerful. Can you find anything in that book?" I nod, shaking off the last vestiges of fear. I grab the Book of Shadows, flipping through the pages, searching for anything that might help us. The words still seem to swim before my eyes, but I force myself to concentrate, focusing on the task at hand. We are the Charmed Ones, the last line of defense against the forces of evil. We have a duty to protect the innocent, to vanquish the darkness. I find a banishing spell, its ancient words resonating with power. It's complex, requiring precise pronunciation and unwavering focus. But it's our only chance. I take a deep breath, steadying my voice. "Okay," I say, "I've got something. But I need you guys to keep it busy while I read." Neil nods, his eyes fixed on the demon. Nevel stands beside him, his shield shimmering. They're ready to fight. They're ready to protect me. They're ready to be the Charmed Ones. As I begin to chant the incantation, my voice trembling slightly, I notice that Neil is watching the demon closely.
