The stench of burnt pine needles and fear hangs thick in the air, stinging Chiara's nostrils. Behind her, the forest floor trembles with the monstrous approach of something vast and hungry. Embers dance in the wind, painting the encroaching inferno in strokes of angry orange and desperate red. She doesn't dare look back. Not yet. Drastyn, her long time friend and an Alpha in his own right, claws at her arm, urging her onward. His face, smudged with soot, is a mask of raw panic. “Faster, Chiara! It’s gaining!” But Chiara’s lungs burn, her legs scream in protest. She stumbles, the rugged terrain unforgiving beneath her worn boots. This far north, the wilds are always a test, but with the fire and… that… hunting them, it's a death sentence. A low growl, like stones grinding together, vibrates through the earth, spurring her onward. It’s close. Too close. Suddenly, a figure emerges from the dense foliage ahead. Tall, broad-shouldered, his dark hair tousled by the wind, Cambion regards them with an unnervingly calm gaze. Even from this distance, she can feel the powerful waves of his Alpha pheromones, a heady mix of command and something…else. Something that makes her Omega instincts flutter despite the imminent danger. "Cambion," Drastyn breathes, relief momentarily eclipsing his fear. "Thank the stars." Cambion’s dark eyes flick to Chiara, a flicker of concern softening his features. “The fire is spreading faster than anticipated. And something else is out there. Something…wrong." He extends a hand to Chiara. His touch, calloused and warm, sends a shiver of awareness through her exhausted body. "We need to move. Now." As Cambion turns, Chiara catches a glimpse of something massive and dark weaving between the trees behind them. It is the “wrong” he speaks of. The outline of something not quite animal and not quite demon. A hunter of flesh. Cambion barks an order to Drastyn. "Take the east path! Circle around the ridge!" He looks at Chiara. The air around him crackles with an unspoken tension, something possessive and urgent. "I am faster alone. I will draw it away." Chiara stares into his dark eyes, her heart pounding in her chest. She knows that look. Knows the unyielding determination of an Alpha protecting what he considers his. A dangerous thrill courses through her. "No. I won't leave you." His jaw tightens. "You will obey. Your life is worth more than mine." The beast howls, its voice ripping through the air, closing in. There is no time to argue. Drastyn grabs her hand, pulling her towards the east path. Do you trust Cambion to lead the danger away, or defy his direct order and stay?

Chiara's heart hammers against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the symphony of crackling fire and monstrous roars. Every instinct screams at her to stay, to fight beside Cambion, to protect the Alpha who has so unexpectedly stirred her dormant Omega core. But she also recognizes the cold, hard logic in his command. Her presence would only hinder him, make him hesitate, and possibly lead to both their deaths. Torn, she allows Drastyn to pull her along the rugged path. Each step is a betrayal, each rustle of leaves a reminder of the danger she's leaving behind. She chances one last look over her shoulder, her gaze piercing through the smoke-filled air. Cambion stands like a sentinel against the encroaching darkness, his stance defiant, his eyes locked onto the unseen enemy. There's a primal power radiating from him, a raw, untamed energy that both terrifies and exhilarates her. He is the embodiment of everything an Alpha should be: strong, protective, and utterly, irrevocably dominant. A shiver courses through her as she thinks about how much he could be hers. As Drastyn tugs her deeper into the woods, the image of Cambion sears itself into her mind. He is more than just another Alpha; he is a force of nature, a beacon of hope in the face of overwhelming despair. "Chiara, focus!" Drastyn snaps, his voice tight with anxiety. "We need to keep moving." She tears her gaze away from the direction of Cambion and forces herself to concentrate on the path ahead. The trees are thick here, their branches intertwined like skeletal fingers reaching out to ensnare them. The air is thick with smoke, making it hard to breathe. Despite the fear gnawing at her insides, a strange sense of anticipation begins to bloom. Cambion's presence has awakened something within her, a long-dormant longing for connection, for belonging. She realizes with a startling clarity that she is no longer just running from danger; she is running towards something, too. Towards a future she never dared to imagine. One that has an Alpha by her side. She's not alone in this world any more. The path winds its way through the undergrowth, leading them deeper into the heart of the forest. As they run, Chiara clutches a small, smooth stone she found on the ground. It’s a tangible reminder of Cambion’s strength and the promise of something more. What now lies ahead, however, remains unclear, shrouded in smoke and uncertainty.

Chiara stumbles, her legs burning with fatigue. She wants to deny the truth screaming in her mind. Her Omega, stirred to life by Cambion's potent presence, now recognizes a subtle but equally compelling scent emanating from Drastyn. An impossible notion takes root: could they both be her mates? The idea feels like a betrayal of everything she thought she knew. Two Alphas? It's rare, a whispered legend among Omegas, but not unheard of. Yet, she never dared to dream it could be her reality. "I don't know how much longer I can keep going," she gasps, the words laced with genuine exhaustion. The flight has taken its toll, and her body threatens to shut down. Drastyn stops, his grip on her arm tightening. His eyes scan their surroundings, a flicker of concern crossing his features. "We need to find shelter, somewhere to rest. This fire is moving fast." He guides her toward a dense thicket of trees, their branches forming a natural barrier against the encroaching flames. As they settle into the relative safety of the thicket, Chiara leans against a tree, her breath coming in ragged bursts. The scent coming from Drastyn is getting stronger. She struggles to reconcile her growing attraction with the fear and uncertainty swirling within her. Drastyn shifts beside her, his movements mirroring her own unease. He avoids her gaze, busying himself with clearing away debris. The air crackles with unspoken tension, a silent acknowledgment of the undeniable connection between them. "Chiara," he begins, his voice low and hesitant, "there's something I need to tell you." Her heart leaps into her throat. Is he aware of the bond forming between them? Does he feel it too? Before he can continue, a distant roar echoes through the trees, cutting through the fragile moment. The sound is closer now, more menacing. Drastyn stiffens, his eyes widening in alarm. "It's coming this way," he whispers, his hand instinctively reaching for the knife at his hip. "We need to move, now!" Fear surges through Chiara, momentarily eclipsing the confusion and desire that had begun to consume her. The reality of their perilous situation crashes down upon her. They are still running for their lives. The potential of having two mates, of finding a love she never thought possible, becomes a distant dream, overshadowed by the immediate need to survive.
