The biting Gotham wind whipped around me, tugging at the edges of my coat as I navigated the labyrinthine streets near the old Gotham Docks. A year. A year since the Lazarus Project, a year since they cured me. A year since I last saw Victor. My reflection stared back at me from the rain-streaked windows of a passing car, a ghost of the woman I once was. Thirty, they tell me, though the cryogenic sleep stole a decade, leaving a hollow ache in its wake. I clutched the small vial in my pocket, the culmination of months of research – a modified enzyme, a possible cure for Victor's condition, a chance for him to feel warmth again. The docks were a hive of shadows and whispers, the air thick with the scent of brine and decay. My footsteps echoed on the cracked pavement, each sound a stark reminder of my isolation. I had to find him, before…before he did. Rumors had been circulating, whispers in the underworld about a string of disappearances, people found frozen solid in the alleys of Crime Alley. It could only be Victor, his desperation spiraling into something darker. A sudden screech of tires ripped through the night. A sleek, black vehicle slammed to a halt a few feet away, its headlights blinding. A figure emerged, tall and imposing, the bat emblem emblazoned on his chest. "Nora Fries," Batman's voice was a low growl, laced with suspicion. "I know what you're up to." My heart pounded against my ribs. "I'm trying to help him," I pleaded, my voice barely above a whisper. "He needs this." I held up the vial, the faint light glinting off the glass. Batman stepped closer, his gaze unwavering. "Freeze is a danger to this city. He needs to be stopped." "He's not a monster," I protested, my voice trembling. "He's just… he's just trying to save the one thing he loves." "And what about the people he hurts in the process?" Batman countered, his voice hardening. "How many more will suffer for your husband's obsession?" He was right, of course. But Victor, the man I loved, was still in there, buried beneath layers of ice and grief. I had to believe that. A distant siren wailed in the distance, growing louder, closer. Batman turned his head, his attention momentarily diverted. It was my chance. Do I stay and argue my case to Batman, hoping to convince him to help me save Victor, or do I disappear into the labyrinthine docks, trusting my instincts to lead me to my husband first?

Batman's words hang in the frigid air, a chilling echo of Michael's warnings. "He's still a criminal." The sleek Batmobile disappears into the night, its taillights fading like a promise broken. I stand alone amidst the shadows of Gotham Docks, the vial of hope heavy in my pocket. Michael. My brother. He never understood Victor's desperation, his willingness to cross any line to save me. To Michael, Victor was always a monster, a madman obsessed with the impossible. But I saw the love, the raw, desperate love that fueled his actions. A love I still cling to, despite everything. I take a shaky breath, the salty air stinging my lungs. Batman is right. Victor has hurt people, innocent people caught in the crossfire of his obsession. But he isn't like the Joker, driven by chaos and madness. He isn't Two-Face, twisted by fate and vengeance. Victor is a scientist, a brilliant mind warped by tragedy. He needs me. He needs this cure, this chance to reclaim his humanity. I refuse to let Batman, or Michael, or anyone else dictate his destiny. I turn away from the direction Batman drove, my footsteps quickening as I delve deeper into the labyrinthine docks. The warehouses loom like skeletal giants, their darkened windows like vacant eyes. The air grows colder, a familiar chill that seeps into my bones, a reminder of the years I spent frozen in time. A low growl reverberates from the shadows ahead, a sound that sends a shiver down my spine. Two figures emerge from the darkness, their silhouettes outlined against the faint moonlight. They are thugs, their faces hardened by years of petty crime, their eyes glinting with menace. "Well, well, well," one of them sneers, stepping closer. "What do we have here? A pretty little thing all alone in this godforsaken place." The other one chuckles, a guttural sound that makes my skin crawl. "She looks lost. Maybe we can help her find her way." My heart pounds in my chest, fear constricting my throat. I clutch the vial tighter, my knuckles white. I try to sidestep them, to slip past unnoticed, but they block my path. "Where do you think you're going, sweetheart?" the first thug asks, reaching out to grab my arm. "We just want to have a little chat." I know what they want. I've seen it in their eyes before. A surge of adrenaline courses through my veins, a primal instinct to survive. I am not helpless. I am not the fragile woman who lay frozen for years. I pull away from the thug's grasp, my eyes blazing with defiance. "Get away from me," I snarl, my voice trembling but firm. They laugh, a mocking sound that echoes in the darkness. The first thug lunges for me, his hand outstretched. Do I try to fight them off, risking the vial and the possibility of injury, or do I try to run, hoping to outmaneuver them in the maze of the docks?

Panic claws at my throat, a desperate animal trying to escape. The thug's hand clamps over my mouth, stifling my scream, stealing my breath. His putrid stench fills my nostrils, the smell of cheap liquor and desperation. Fear paralyzes me, a cold wave washing over my body, rendering me helpless. 'Don't worry, sweetheart,' the thug rasps in my ear, his voice thick with malice. 'We'll take good care of ya.' Their laughter grates against my eardrums, a symphony of impending doom. Then, chaos erupts. A roar shatters the night, a sound so primal, so unexpected, that it momentarily stuns even my captors. Two hulking figures emerge from the shadows, their white fur gleaming under the pale moonlight. Polar bears. Here? In Gotham Docks? It's impossible, surreal, yet undeniably real. They move with surprising speed, their massive paws pounding against the cracked pavement. One of them barrels into the thugs, knocking them off me with brutal force. I stumble backwards, gasping for air, my chest heaving. Before I can fully comprehend what's happening, a beam of icy energy streaks through the air, striking the downed thugs. They convulse, their bodies seizing, then freeze solid, encased in shimmering ice. I stare in horrified fascination as the polar bears turn their attention towards me, their black eyes gleaming with an unnerving intelligence. A guttural roar rumbles from their chests, a sound that vibrates through my very being. I brace myself for an attack, for the inevitable mauling. 'No! Let her go!' The voice slices through the night, a familiar baritone laced with desperation and a hint of control. Victor. Relief washes over me, momentarily eclipsing the terror. My gaze snaps towards the source of the voice, and there he is, standing amidst the shadows, encased in his cryogenic suit, his face obscured by the frosted helmet. The beam cannon attached to his suit is still smoking, a testament to its deadly power. The polar bears pause, their massive heads swiveling towards Victor, as if awaiting his command. They stand between me and him, their presence a strange, unnerving barrier. A wave of dizziness threatens to engulf me as I try to process the scene before me, the thugs frozen solid, the polar bears acting as protectors, and Victor, his voice tight with a mixture of relief and warning. Are the creatures under Victor´s control, or is this a twisted coincidence born of the Gotham night?
