The flickering flames of the campfire dance in your eyes, mirroring the chaotic thoughts swirling in your mind. You are Thomas, a name whispered to you by Payton only moments ago, yet it feels foreign on your tongue. Across the fire, Payton Dimond, a curious blend of punk defiance and haunted vulnerability, watches you with an unreadable expression. Fort Helos is nothing more than a crumbling barricade against a world gone mad. The air hangs thick with the scent of decay and the metallic tang of radiation. Skeletons litter the ground, silent witnesses to a forgotten war. You run a hand through your slick black hair, wincing as your fingers brush against the scar beneath your eye. It's a physical reminder of a past you can't grasp, a life stolen by amnesia. "So, hotshot," Payton says, breaking the silence, her voice raspy from disuse. "You gonna stare at the fire all night, or are you gonna tell me what's buzzing around in that pretty head of yours?" You lean forward, the heat of the fire warming your face. "I don't remember anything, Payton. Before... waking up in that settlement, nothing. Not my name, not my family, not even what I did yesterday." Dimond snorts, a plume of smoke escaping her lips. "Join the club. Amnesia's practically a souvenir in this shithole. Doesn't change the fact you're here now. Fort Helos is your new home, for better or worse." Home. The word feels hollow. This place, this ruin, is just another stop on a journey you don't even remember starting. You glance around at the faces of the other recruits, their expressions ranging from hardened indifference to wide-eyed fear. Fort Helos is a refuge, a fortress, but also a cage. "Why am I here?" you ask, your voice barely a whisper. "Why did they choose me?" "Because you're strong," Payton says, her blue eyes locking onto yours. "Because you're alive. Because maybe, just maybe, you can help us survive. Harizona ain't exactly a picnic, newbie. There are groups out there... factions with their own twisted ideas of how things should be." She pauses, picking up a charred stick and poking at the fire. "Some are peaceful, some are raiders, some are just plain crazy. Choosing the right allies, or knowing who to avoid, can mean the difference between life and death." Suddenly, a piercing alarm blares from the watchtower, shattering the fragile peace. The recruits scramble to their feet, grabbing weapons and shouting orders. Payton grabs your arm, her grip surprisingly strong. "Sounds like company," she yells over the din. "Raiders probably, or worse. Either way, time to find out how good you really are." Do you grab the rifle someone shoves into your hands and head for the barricades, or do you stick close to Payton, hoping she can guide you through this chaos?

You sprint towards the watchtower, hoping to get a better vantage point of the approaching threat. A volley of energy blasts impacts the outer wall, sending debris flying into the air. You duck instinctively, shielding your face from the shrapnel as you scramble for the ladder leading up to the watchtower. The metal rungs are cold and slick beneath your hands, and the wind whips around you as you ascend. Reaching the top, you gasp for breath, your lungs burning. The scene below is a chaotic mess of shouting recruits and scurrying figures. But it's the sight beyond the barricades that truly steals your breath. A large group of raiders is advancing, their vehicles kicking up dust and debris. They are armed with crude weapons and modified energy cannons, their faces contorted with bloodlust. But what sends a chill down your spine isn't their weapons or their numbers. It's the figures lurking behind them, shrouded in shadows and wielding strange, pulsating energy weapons. They are tall and gaunt, with elongated skulls and glowing red eyes. These are not ordinary raiders; they are something far more sinister. Payton's voice crackles in your ear through the comms unit someone shoved into your hands. "Thomas, you see those things? Those aren't your average wasteland psychos. They're called the 'Enlightened.' Bat-shit crazy cultists who think they can control radiation or something. Stay clear of their energy weapons, understood?" You grip the rusty railing of the watchtower, your knuckles white. "Understood. What's the plan?" "We hold the line," Payton says, her voice grim. "We don't let them breach the walls. Dimond is setting up defenses, and I'm gonna need you to provide cover fire from up there. Can you handle that?" Below, the first energy blasts slam into the barricades, sending chunks of concrete and metal flying. The screams of the wounded fill the air, mingling with the roar of the raiders' engines. The attack has begun. "Yeah," you say, your voice trembling slightly. "I can handle it." You spot a mounted machine gun near your feet. Gritting your teeth, you plant your feet firmly on the deck and prepare to unleash hell.

You grab the machine gun and begin firing at the advancing raiders. The weapon roars to life, spitting a stream of bullets towards the approaching figures. The recoil slams against your shoulder, but you hold your ground, squeezing the trigger and sweeping the gun back and forth across the enemy lines. Raiders stumble and fall as bullets tear through their ranks. Some drop their weapons and clutch at their wounds, while others charge forward, fueled by rage and desperation. The air fills with the acrid smell of gunpowder and the screams of the dying. Beside you, a sandbag explodes as an energy blast impacts the watchtower, showering you in dirt and debris. You cough and sputter, momentarily blinded, but you don't let up on the trigger. You can't. Not now. Payton's voice crackles in your ear, strained but firm. "Good shooting, Thomas! Keep those bastards pinned down!" You grit your teeth and continue to lay down suppressing fire, targeting the raiders who are closest to the barricades. You watch as a few of them attempt to scale the walls, only to be cut down by your bullets or the desperate melee attacks of the defenders below. Suddenly, a chilling howl cuts through the chaos, making the hair on the back of your neck stand up. It comes from the ranks of the 'Enlightened', who are now advancing with eerie, deliberate steps. They raise their strange energy weapons, and the air crackles with an unnatural energy. One of the 'Enlightened' aims their weapon directly at the watchtower. A beam of crimson energy erupts from the barrel, streaking towards you with blinding speed. You barely have time to react. Instinctively, you throw yourself to the ground, narrowly avoiding the blast. The energy beam slams into the railing beside you, vaporizing the metal and sending a shower of sparks into the air. The force of the impact rocks the entire watchtower, and you feel a sharp pain in your arm as you hit the deck. "Thomas, down!" Payton screams through the comms. "Those energy weapons will melt you!" You scramble back to your feet, adrenaline coursing through your veins. Your ears ring, and your vision swims for a moment, but you force yourself to focus. You have to keep firing. You have to protect your friends.
