The condensed ball of magic whizzes past Vylantus' ear, the heat of it stinging his skin even through the thick Bullfillo fur coat. The goblin shaman cackles, a sound that grates on Vylantus' nerves like nails on stone. It is being guarded by a hulking sentinel, its rocky hide shimmering with embedded crystals, and a berserker variant, frothing at the mouth, its crude axe dripping with some foul-smelling concoction. His Cypher, crafted from devil's ruby, chimes lightly at his belt, indicating a prize nearby, somewhere beyond the trio of dungeon denizens. Probably something worth braving this little gauntlet for. "Kokko, you ready?" Vylantus asks, his hand resting on the hilt of his whip. From behind him, Kokko emerges, her sunset carapace gleaming in the dim light of the cavern. Her eight golden eyes fix on the berserker, a flicker of something akin to hunger in them. "Always, Vylantus," she replies, her voice a melodic hum. "Though I do wish we could find a spot less...damp." Vylantus chuckles. "Can't be picky in the underlevels, my dear. Besides, a little moisture is good for your complexion." He cracks the whip, the leathers singing as the runes woven into them flare with a faint, crimson light. The goblin shaman shrieks, startled by the sound, and hurls another ball of magic. Vylantus sidesteps it with ease, years of dungeon delving having honed his reflexes to a razor's edge. "Sentinel first," he commands, flicking the whip towards the rocky behemoth. "Keep the shaman busy, Kokko." Kokko doesn't need to be told twice. With a fluid, unsettling grace, she leaps forward, her spinnerets already working, weaving a net of shimmering silk that flashes red and orange in the dim light. The berserker roars, charging towards her, axe raised, but its clumsy movements are no match for Kokko's agility. Vylantus dances around the sentinel, the whip singing as it lashes out, striking at the crystal weak points in its armor. Each strike sends shards of crystal flying, but the sentinel barely seems to notice, its movements slow but inexorable. He knows he needs to take it down quickly, before Kokko gets overwhelmed. He risks a glance towards her and sees the berserker entangled in her web but hacking away furiously. The prize awaits, just past these three. Vylantus adjusts the grip on his whip. Time to get creative. Does he focus on crippling the sentinel or attempt a daring maneuver to disarm the berserker and assist Kokko?

Vylantus channels one of his other pacts, and his whip is sheathed in an aura. Kokko is doing fine at the moment, so all he has to do is focus more on his own task. "Galewind," he says, his voice a low murmur, and the air around his whip shimmers. He is not one for overt displays of magic unless necessary, a lesson learned from his mana deficiency, but sometimes a subtle enhancement is all it takes to tip the scales. The whip now moves with a speed and precision that defies its physical weight. The sentinel continues its relentless advance, its crystal hide proving surprisingly resilient to Vylantus' attacks. He needs a new approach. He feints left, drawing the sentinel's attention, then abruptly reverses direction, lashing out with the whip towards its legs. The air cracks as the whip connects, the force of the blow amplified by the galewind pact. The sentinel stumbles, its rocky legs momentarily buckling. Now is his chance. He leaps forward, using the sentinel's momentary disorientation to his advantage. He ducks under a wild swing of its massive arms and aims the whip at the exposed joint behind its knee. The whip snakes around the joint, and Vylantus pulls with all his strength. The sentinel roars, a sound that echoes through the cavern, as its leg buckles completely. It crashes to the ground, its crystal hide cracking under its own weight. Vylantus doesn't waste a second. He springs away from the fallen sentinel and turns his attention to Kokko, who is still locked in a deadly dance with the berserker. The berserker has managed to free itself from the majority of Kokko's web, but strands of silk still cling to its axe and limbs, hindering its movements. Kokko is quick, but the berserker is relentless, its wild swings forcing her to constantly dodge and weave. Vylantus knows that if the berserker lands a blow, even a glancing one, it could be fatal. He cracks the whip again, the sound echoing through the cavern, drawing the berserker's attention. The berserker snarls, its eyes locking onto Vylantus, and charges towards him, axe raised. Vylantus stands his ground, his hazel-green eyes fixed on the berserker. He allows the berserker to get close, almost within striking distance, before he finally moves. He sidesteps the berserker's wild swing, the axe whistling past his ear, and lashes out with the whip. The whip wraps around the berserker's wrist, tightening with each rotation. The momentum of the berserker's swing works against it, pulling it off balance. With a final tug, Vylantus sends the axe flying from its grasp. The axe clatters to the ground, and the berserker roars in frustration. Vylantus seizes the opportunity. With a flick of the wrist, he sends the whip snaking around the berserker's neck. He pulls tight, cutting off its air supply. The berserker claws at the whip, its face turning a mottled shade of purple, but it is no match for Vylantus' strength and skill. Within seconds, the berserker collapses, unconscious. The goblin shaman, seeing its protectors fall, lets out a wail and flees into the darkness, disappearing into the depths of the cavern. Vylantus watches it go, but makes no move to follow. The prize is more important. He turns to Kokko, a smile on his face. "Well fought, Kokko," he says. "Shall we see what all the fuss is about?"

Vylantus walks over to Kokko and gently touches her arm, checking for any serious injuries. She returns the gesture, her many eyes scanning him with concern. He nods, reassuring her. Vylantus walks over to Kokko and gently touches her arm, checking for any serious injuries. She returns the gesture, her many eyes scanning him with concern. He nods, reassuring her. "I'm fine, Kokko. Just a scratch or two. Are you alright?" Kokko clicks her mandibles in response, a sign of affection and relief. "I am unharmed, Vylantus. That berserker was…unpleasant, but your aid was timely as always." She gestures with one of her spinnerets, a slight tremor in her movement. He gives her a warm smile, relieved that she is alright, and turns to their surroundings. "That goblin shaman probably won't be able to get into any treasure rooms but he may come back with friends, so we should deal with all the loot that we can now." Vylantus approaches the fallen sentinel first, careful not to touch the crystal hide directly. He uses the butt of his whip to test the stability of the crystalline structure. It shatters easily under the force, revealing a core of raw magic energy. He eyes it cautiously. "That's a bit too unstable to move safely." He moves to the berserker, who is still unconscious but breathing. He rummages through its crude leather armor and finds a small pouch containing a few tarnished coins and a crudely fashioned key made of bone. "Not much, but the key might be useful." Vylantus pockets the key and turns his attention to the direction the goblin shaman had fled. "I would feel better if we burned the bodies, but we do not have the time right now." "We should get to the prize before anyone else decides to take it, Vylantus." Kokko tilts her head, her golden eyes gleaming in the dim light. "Who knows what other dangers lurk in these tunnels?" Vylantus nods in agreement. "You're right, as always. Let's not waste any more time." He gestures towards a narrow passage that seems to lead deeper into the cavern. "This way, I presume?" Kokko takes the lead, her spider-like agility allowing her to navigate the uneven terrain with ease. Vylantus follows closely behind, his whip held ready, his senses alert for any sign of danger. They descend deeper into the earth, the air growing heavy with the scent of damp earth and something else…something ancient and powerful. He hopes it isn't another guardian.
