The canvas of the map reflects the dim light of the command tent, illuminating the stern faces gathered around it. You, Brigadier General Amon Goth, trace the outline of Somerlant archipelago with your finger. The archipelago, a string of islands barely clinging to the turbulent sea, is the first stepping stone in Nurdhelm's ambition to curtail Sudhelm's influence. "Alpha Team, designation 'Spearhead', will secure the western beachhead of Insel Dreizack," you state, your voice steady and devoid of any theatrical inflection. Around the table, heads nod in acknowledgement. These are not wide-eyed recruits, but seasoned officers of the 56th Spearhead Brigade. Men who understand the brutal calculus of war. Major Erich Hartmann, his face weathered from years of field operations, speaks up. "Sir, aerial reconnaissance reports increased coastal artillery emplacements on Dreizack. Requesting additional air support." You consider the request, weighing the risks and resources. "Granted. I want two additional sorties from the 32nd Aviation Wing. But emphasize precision targeting. Civilian casualties are unacceptable." You pause, your gaze sweeping across the map. "Bravo Team, under Colonel Adelheid Wagner, will provide a diversionary assault on the eastern cliffs of Insel Dreizack. This will split their forces and draw attention away from Spearhead's landing zone." A woman with short blonde hair, her posture radiating competence, confirms, "Understood, sir. We'll make enough noise to draw the devil himself." "Charlie Company, 63rd Engineers," you continue, addressing a young captain with nervous eyes. "Your mission is critical. Secure the main road leading inland from the western beachhead. Clear any obstacles, neutralize mines, and prepare for rapid advance of our armored support." The captain swallows hard, his voice barely audible. "Yes, sir. We'll get it done." You lean closer to the map, pointing at a small cluster of islands further east. "Once Insel Dreizack is secured, we move onto Insel Seestern. This is where the real resistance will be. Intelligence suggests a significant Sudhelm garrison and fortified positions." "The enemy will expect us, sir," Major Hartmann observes. "They'll be dug in, waiting for us to walk into their trap." You nod, your mind already formulating a counter-strategy. "Then we won't give them what they expect. We will hit them hard and fast. Use their assumptions against them." The room falls silent, the only sound the rhythmic ticking of a clock on the wall. Each officer absorbs your words, preparing themselves mentally for the coming storm. "Dismissed," you announce, rising from your chair. "Prepare for Operation 'Seestern'. May fortune favour the bold." As the officers file out of the command tent, their faces grim but resolute, you are left alone with the map and the weight of command. The fate of the archipelago, and perhaps the future of Fisk island, rests on your shoulders. The invasion is about to begin. A sharp crackle emanates from the field radio beside you. "Sir, reconnaissance patrol 'Odin' reports heavy enemy activity, west of Insel Dreizack. Multiple gunboats detected, moving in your direction. ETA: fifteen minutes." You pause, contemplating what to do with this alarming piece of information.

The command tent transforms from a hub of strategic planning to a makeshift common room. Laughter echoes, punctuated by the crisp snap of Zyn pouches being opened and the exhaled plumes of vapor. You, Amon Goth, lean back in your chair, the tension easing from your shoulders as you engage in the camaraderie. Major Hartmann recounts a tale of a misfired artillery shell during a training exercise, his imitation of the panicked gunner eliciting roars of laughter. Colonel Wagner chimes in with a cutting remark about a rival officer's incompetence, the comment laced with the kind of dark humor that only war can breed. Even the nervous young captain from the engineers manages a weak smile. You take a long drag from your cigarette, the nicotine a familiar comfort. The air fills with a haze of smoke and shared stories, a temporary escape from the grim reality that awaits them. The talk meanders from estates back home – sprawling farmlands in Nurdhelm, meticulously maintained gardens, and wives waiting with open arms – to crude jokes about the enemy. Racial slurs are tossed around with casual abandon, reflecting the ingrained prejudices that fuel the conflict. There is a strange comfort in this shared darkness, a bond forged in the crucible of war. The atmosphere shifts abruptly as the field radio crackles to life once more. The levity vanishes, replaced by a focused intensity. All eyes turn to you, waiting for your command. "Sir, long-range radar detects incoming aircraft. Unidentified. Trajectory suggests they are heading towards our position," The voice on the radio is crisp, professional. You exhale the last of your cigarette smoke and grind the butt beneath your heel. "Alert all anti-air defenses. Scramble the fighters. I want those planes identified and intercepted before they reach the mainland island". You turn to Major Hartmann "I want AA guns at landing beach 7 ready to fire on command" You turn to Colonel Wagner "Ready your men to receive artillery fire, make sure they are dug in as much as possible" "Yes Sir!" Both say in unison and quickly depart the tent, you turn to the young captain from the engineers "Make sure AA guns have proper firing positions in case they have to relocate to a secondary location, I want to know if they have a proper path to retreat and reload" "Yes Sir!" the captain says as he quickly rushes out. The map of the Somerlant archipelago looms large once more. You study the layout of the islands. Somerlant consists of a main island with seven potential landing beaches, plus two smaller islands on the west and east wings, each offering a single landing beach. A complex puzzle of terrain, defenses, and potential threats. You are very much aware that Sudhelm's armed forces are a hodgepodge of trained soldiers, state militia, foreign mercenaries, and ragtag locals. But that doesn't make them any less dangerous. Each of those individuals can hold a gun. And a bullet cares not who fires it. As a shrill alarm pierces the air, signaling imminent attack.
