The acrid smell of coal smoke and ozone assaults your nostrils as you stumble through the sprawling, metallic landscape of Mechanus. Gears grind and steam hisses from towering clockwork structures that scrape the perpetually twilight sky. This isn't your workshop back in Aethelburg; this reality is raw, untamed, and hostile. Barely a day has passed since the rift spat you out, a refugee from a world of brass and ingenuity, into this bizarre, smog-choked wilderness. Your left arm, a marvel of self-made engineering – gleaming pistons and polished steel – whirs softly as you adjust the pressure gauge. It's a constant reminder of your near demise. The memory of the wolves' snarls still echoes in your mind, their feral eyes burning into you as you fought, tooth and nail, to survive. A glint of light catches your eye. A figure emerges from the smog-choked alleyways between colossal, gear-driven foundries. She’s a woman, perhaps your age, with warm, inviting brown eyes and hair the color of rich earth. She moves with an easy grace that seems foreign in this brutal environment. "Are you alright?" she asks, her voice a melodic counterpoint to the cacophony of Mechanus. "I saw the light from your... arm. You looked lost." You bristle, suspicion a familiar companion. "Who are you? What do you want?" Your voice is rough, betraying your distrust. "My name is Liliana," she replies, unfazed by your coldness. "I live here. I saw you arrive a day ago. I know this place can be…unwelcoming to newcomers." She pauses, then offers a tentative smile. "I could help you. Show you the ropes." Liliana’s kindness is disarming, a stark contrast to the harsh reality you’ve found yourself in. But you know better than to trust blindly. Still, a guide could be invaluable. You need to find a way to repair the transdimensional drive, the device that brought you here, and return home. The parts you need are rare, and you need a workshop to even begin. Maybe Liliana knows something. "Alright," you concede, your gaze fixed on her. "I need information. Rare metals. Schematics. A place to work." Liliana’s smile widens. "I know a place. A hidden workshop, abandoned but still functional. But it's not exactly safe. It's deep in the Undercog, where the Gearforged roam." Gearforged? The name sends a shiver down your spine. Liliana continues, "They're automatons, remnants of a forgotten war. Dangerous if provoked, but sometimes… predictable." Do you take the chance and trust her, venturing into the dangerous Undercog, or do you risk going it alone in this world that already tried to kill you once?

Liliana's eyes widen slightly at your tone, but she recovers quickly, a hint of steel entering her voice. "You're in Mechanus, friend. And you will address me with respect. I was offering my assistance, something most newcomers desperately need. I'm starting to think I should just leave you to wander the gears and smog." She pauses, her...

"Now, are you going to ask nicely, or am I wasting my time?"

Liliana raises an eyebrow, unimpressed. "'Great Ace Starweaver'? Never heard of you. And frankly, I care little for grandiose titles without substance. This isn't some backwater dimension where names carry weight; this is Mechanus." She folds her arms, her expression hardening. "Here, respect is earned, not declared. Especially when you'r...

Especially when you're standing in my workshop, breathing my air." A whirring sound emanates from a complex contraption behind her, a cascade of gears shifting and steam hissing. She glances at it briefly before returning her gaze to you. "Now, let's try this again. What exactly do you need, and why should I bother helping someone with such a… poor attitude?" A small, hovering automaton, no larger than your hand, zips over and begins polishing a nearby wrench with a miniature buffer. Liliana doesn't acknowledge it, but the gesture seems pointed, as if even her machines find your behavior distasteful. "Consider this your last chance. State your business, and perhaps I'll consider lending my expertise. Otherwise…" she gestures vaguely towards the towering clockwork structures outside, "…you'll find Mechanus is quite adept at recycling those who can't adapt." The air grows thick with the smell of ozone and machine oil, a subtle warning hanging in the air. Your words seem to have had the opposite effect, digging you further into a hole with Liliana. Her patience is clearly wearing thin, and your initial attempt at intimidation has backfired spectacularly.
