The biting wind whips through the worn fabric of Qiang Long's tunic, mirroring the turmoil in his heart. He stands at the precipice of the Azure Dragon Mountains, the jagged peaks piercing the sky like the teeth of some ancient beast. Beside him, Jian Xiong shivers, his broad frame offering little protection against the mountain's chill. "Are you sure about this, Qiang?" Jian Xiong's voice is a low rumble, laced with concern. "We could have stayed in the village. Lived a normal life." Qiang Long clenches his fists, his gaze fixed on the winding path leading up the mountain. "Normal?" He scoffs, a plume of breath misting in the air. "We were never meant for normal, Jian Xiong. I can feel it." He glances at his reflection in Jian Xiong's worried eyes – fiery strands of hair catching the weak sunlight, pupils like bottomless pits. He has always felt different, a burning ember in a world of gentle flames. The whispers he overheard in the village, tales of body cultivation and legendary sects hidden amongst these very mountains, have ignited a fire within him, one that cannot be extinguished. "But what if we fail?" Jian Xiong persists, his voice laced with a fear Qiang Long doesn't share. "What if we're not strong enough?" Qiang Long places a hand on his friend's shoulder, his touch surprisingly firm. "Then we become stronger. Together. We'll refine our skin, augment our muscles, forge our bones until we're unbreakable. We'll reach Meridian Perfection if it's the last thing we do." He pauses, a mischievous glint in his dark eyes. "Besides, imagine the look on old Widow Mei's face when we return, stronger than anyone she's ever seen!" Jian Xiong manages a weak smile, his worry slightly abated. "Just promise me you won't get yourself killed, alright? I'm not carrying your body down this mountain." Qiang Long laughs, the sound echoing through the desolate landscape. "No promises. But I'll try my best." They begin their ascent, the path steep and unforgiving. Hours bleed into each other as they navigate treacherous terrain, their bodies aching, their spirits tested. As dusk settles, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple, they finally reach a clearing. Before them stands a towering gate, carved from ancient stone, the entrance to the rumored Azure Cloud Sect. Two imposing figures stand guard, their eyes cold and assessing. "State your purpose," one of the guards booms, his voice echoing through the mountains. Qiang Long steps forward, his heart pounding with anticipation. This is it. The beginning of their journey. Does he tell the guards the truth - that they are orphans seeking to learn the art of body cultivation? Or does he fabricate a tale of noble lineage and a thirst for knowledge?

Qiang Long takes a deep breath, the mountain air filling his lungs. He meets the guard's piercing gaze, his own unwavering. "We are orphans," he declares, his voice clear and strong despite the tremor of nervousness in his stomach. "We've heard whispers of the Azure Cloud Sect, of the path to strength through body cultivation. We seek to learn." The guards exchange a look, their expressions unreadable. The silence stretches, thick and heavy, punctuated only by the whistling wind. Finally, the second guard steps forward, his eyes narrowing. "Do you understand the dedication required? The pain? The sacrifices?" "We are willing to endure anything," Qiang Long replies, his voice firm. He glances at Jian Xiong, who nods in agreement, his resolve evident in his determined stance. The first guard lets out a harsh laugh. "Willingness is cheap. The mountains are filled with those who claim willingness, only to crumble at the first sign of hardship. But there's a trial to measure one's spirit, one's bone". He gestures towards a narrow, winding path that disappears into the darkness beyond the gate. "The Path of Ten Torments. Survive it, and you may be worthy." Qiang Long's heart leaps. A trial. A chance to prove themselves. He glances at Jian Xiong again, seeking his approval. His friend's face is pale, but he nods, his jaw set. "We accept," Qiang Long says, his voice ringing with newfound confidence. The guards step aside, allowing them passage. As they pass through the gate, Qiang Long feels a shift in the air, a palpable sense of ancient power. The Path of Ten Torments looms before them, shrouded in shadow, a testament to the sect's rigorous standards. The path descends sharply, the air growing colder with each step. Strange symbols are etched into the stone walls, glowing faintly with an ethereal light. A low hum vibrates through the ground, unsettling and unnerving. Suddenly, a wave of intense heat washes over them, forcing them to stumble back. Flames erupt from the walls, licking at their skin, testing their resolve. This must be the first torment, Qiang Long realizes, his mind racing. He grits his teeth, focusing on enduring the burning sensation, pushing past the pain. Beside him, Jian Xiong doesn't struggle as much, his face grimaced into discomfort. He is naturally more resilient than Qiang Long because of his physique. Jian Xiong reaches out, grabbing his friend's hand, offering him support. "We can do this," Jian Xiong whispers, his voice hoarse. "Together." They press on, battling the flames, their bodies screaming in protest. Just when they think they can't take it anymore, the heat dissipates, leaving them gasping for breath, their clothes singed, their skin raw. But there is no time to rest. As soon as the flames subside, a torrent of icy water cascades down upon them, chilling them to the bone. The second torment has begun, a relentless assault on their senses. What new challenge awaits as they navigate the treacherous path ahead?

The icy water is relentless, stealing their breath and numbing their limbs. Qiang Long shivers uncontrollably, his teeth chattering, his body desperately trying to generate heat. He focuses on Jian Xiong, using his friend's presence as an anchor, a reminder of why they are here. They must endure, they must persist. As the water continues to pummel them, Qiang Long notices a change in its texture. It thickens, becoming viscous and oily, clinging to their skin like a suffocating shroud. The water begins to burn, not with the searing heat of the flames, but with a deep, gnawing cold that penetrates to their very core. "This isn't just water," Jian Xiong gasps, his voice strained. "It's… something else." Qiang Long recognizes it, a primer he read in the orphanage library surfaces in his memory. "Bitterfrost Oil!" he shouts over the roaring torrent. "It amplifies the cold, saps your strength." They must find a way to escape the onslaught, to break free from the oil's icy grip. Qiang Long scans their surroundings, searching for any sign of respite, any weakness in the path's design. He sees nothing but the endless stone walls and the relentless downpour. Then, he notices a subtle shift in the air, a slight eddy in the flow of water. High above, near the ceiling of the path, there is a small alcove, barely visible in the dim light. It's a long shot, but it's their only chance. "Jian Xiong!" Qiang Long yells, pointing towards the alcove. "We need to get up there!" Jian Xiong nods, understanding flashing in his eyes. He braces himself against the wall, creating a makeshift platform with his hands. Qiang Long steps onto his hands, using his friend's strength to propel himself upwards. He reaches for the alcove, his fingers brushing against the cold stone. He pulls himself up, his muscles screaming in protest. The alcove is small, barely large enough for one person, but it offers a temporary refuge from the Bitterfrost Oil. He reaches down, grabbing Jian Xiong's hand, helping him climb up beside him. They huddle together in the alcove, shivering, exhausted, but alive. The Bitterfrost Oil continues to pour down the path, a constant reminder of the torment they have escaped. They can see faint lights further up the passage. With no choice but to continue, Qiang Long and Jian Xiong brace themselves for the path ahead. But what new tortures await them in the darkness beyond?
