A heavy silence descends as Father's last breath leaves him. I can't believe it; just hours ago, he was well, advising me on… well, on everything. Now, his eyes are closed, his strong hands still on the bedsheets, and his presence—the presence that filled the entire castle—is simply gone. The room is dimly lit, illuminated by flickering candles that cast long, dancing shadows on the stone walls. James stands to my right, his face etched with grief, yet his posture remains rigid, his duty seemingly outweighing his sorrow. To my left, I see tear-streaked faces of the other members of the court. I feel numb, my mind struggling to grasp the reality of the moment. "Elijah," James says, his voice gravelly, breaking the silence. "He named you his heir. You are the King now." The words feel foreign, absurd. King? I am just a boy, barely a man. I know nothing of ruling, of politics, of war. My life has been one of lessons, of training, of preparing for a future that seemed so distant, so theoretical. Now, that future is here, crashing down upon me with crushing force. I look down at Father's peaceful face, seeking some sort of guidance, some sort of reassurance. But there is only silence. He placed so much trust in me, so much hope. "James," I manage to croak out, my voice trembling, "I… I don't know what to do." James steps closer, his blue eyes, so much like mine, filled with a mixture of sympathy and resolve. "Your father knew this day might come. He entrusted me to guide you. I will not fail him, nor you. But you must be strong, Elijah. Bravos needs its king." He tells me of the ceremony that must take place, the oaths that must be sworn, the council that must be addressed. It all feels like a blur, a distant echo of a reality I am not yet a part of. My head is spinning, my heart pounding. I look back to my father one last time, and say a silent goodbye. As I rise, I feel the weight of the crown, both literal and figurative, pressing down on me. I have no time to mourn; I must prepare. James leads me away from the death chamber, his hand firmly on my shoulder. "There is much to be done," he says. "Nigel will not wait and watch as you prepare. He is a threat, one we must deal with swiftly." His words are a harsh reminder of the dangers that lie ahead. Nigel. The man who has always opposed Father, who has always craved the throne. A storm is coming, and I, a boy of fifteen, must somehow weather it. As we walk through the corridors of the castle, I try to focus, to steel myself for the challenges ahead. But a nagging voice whispers in the back of my mind: Am I ready?

The great hall looms before me, its massive oak doors carved with scenes of Bravos' history – victories, treaties, the faces of past kings. I see Father’s face amongst them, strong and resolute. A wave of sadness washes over me, quickly followed by a surge of determination. I will not let him down. I smooth out my tunic, feeling the weight of the royal signet ring on my finger, a tangible connection to the man I have just lost. Reaching the doors, I pause, the weight of expectation pressing down on me. The sounds of the court within are muffled, a low hum of anticipation and apprehension. I take a deep breath, trying to calm the frantic beating of my heart. Doubt gnaws at me. Can I truly do this? Am I strong enough, wise enough, to lead Bravos through the challenges that lie ahead? I turn to James, his presence a reassuring anchor in this sea of uncertainty. "Are you sure I can do this?" I ask him, my voice barely above a whisper. "I’ve barely prepared. I don’t feel ready," I say with a sigh, the words heavy with the weight of my fears. James smiles, a genuine, warm smile that crinkles the corners of his eyes. It’s a rare sight, one that eases my anxiety. "Elijah," he says, his voice firm but gentle, "whether you know it or not, your father has been preparing you your whole life. Every lesson, every conversation, every piece of advice – it was all for this moment. You are ready." His words resonate within me, stirring a flicker of confidence. He is right. Father always taught me the importance of justice, of compassion, of strength. He instilled in me a deep love for Bravos and its people. Maybe, just maybe, I can do this. I manage a weak smile in return, the knot in my stomach loosening slightly. With a renewed sense of purpose, I reach for the doors, my hand trembling slightly as I grasp the cold metal handle. Taking one final breath, I push them open. The great hall explodes into view. It is packed with nobles, advisors, guards – all eyes are on me. The air crackles with anticipation. Sunlight streams through the stained-glass windows, casting colorful patterns on the stone floor. At the far end of the hall, the throne sits upon a raised dais, gleaming gold in the light. Beside it stands the Archbishop, holding the crown of Bravos. A hush falls over the crowd as I step into the hall, my footsteps echoing on the stone floor. I walk slowly, deliberately, towards the throne, trying to project an air of confidence I do not yet feel. James walks a step behind me, his presence a silent reassurance. The weight of their gazes is almost unbearable, but I keep my eyes fixed on the throne. It is a symbol of power, of responsibility, of the future of Bravos. And it is now mine. I reach the dais and turn to face the crowd. The Archbishop steps forward, holding the crown aloft. It gleams, radiating power and history. As he begins the ancient ceremony, I listen intently, repeating the oaths after him, promising to uphold justice, to protect my people, to serve Bravos with all my strength. With each word, my resolve grows stronger. The Archbishop lowers the crown, and I kneel before him. The cold metal settles upon my head, heavy, solid, real. I am King Elijah of Bravos. I rise, turning to face my court. A wave of cheers erupts, filling the hall with noise and energy. I raise my hand, and the cheers gradually subside. I must now speak, must address my people, must show them that I am ready to lead. My mind races, searching for the right words.

I take a deep breath, the air catching in my throat for a moment. This is it. My first act as King. I take a deep breath, the air catching in my throat for a moment. This is it. My first act as King. I look out at the sea of faces, each one etched with a mixture of hope, apprehension, and curiosity. They are waiting for me, looking to me for guidance, for reassurance. I must not falter. I must speak from the heart. ´People of Bravos,´ I begin, my voice echoing through the great hall, surprisingly steady, ´I stand before you today not as the king you expected, not as a seasoned ruler with years of experience, but as the son of Jerome, your beloved king.´ A murmur ripples through the crowd at the mention of Father’s name. I pause, letting the weight of his memory fill the hall. ´I will take every lesson and guidance my father taught me,´ I continue, my voice growing stronger, ´and I will strive to rule not as a fifteen-year-old boy, but as a strong, mature man, worthy of his legacy.´ I see nods of approval, faces softening with understanding. I am reaching them, connecting with them. Encouraged, I press on, addressing the looming threat that hangs over us all. ´As you all know, there is an ever-looming threat in Nigel. He hated my father, and he will undoubtedly hate me. But fear not, for I do not fear him as he wants me to. If anything, I will channel the inner rage and anger I have for him, use it as a weapon to defeat him, to protect our kingdom.´ I clench my fists, feeling the surge of determination coursing through my veins. My words are not just for them; they are for me as well. I will not be intimidated. I will not back down. I will face Nigel with courage and resolve. ´People of Bravos,´ I conclude, my voice resonating with conviction, ´the road ahead is long, it will be hard and treacherous. But we will not face it alone. We will face it together. We will stand united, strong, and unyielding. For we are the people of Bravos, and we will not be broken.´ A thunderous roar erupts from the crowd, a wave of cheers and applause that washes over me. I stand tall, my head held high, the crown feeling lighter now, the weight of responsibility shifting into a sense of purpose. I am their king, and I will lead them. As the cheers begin to die down, James steps forward, his face beaming with pride. ´Now, your majesty,´ he says, his voice low, ´there are matters that require your immediate attention. Nigel’s forces have been sighted near the western border.´ The news is a stark reminder that the threat is real, that the war is coming. There is no time for celebration, no time for rest. I nod, my gaze hardening. ´Then let us prepare for war,´ I say, my voice firm. ´Summon the council. I want a full report on our defenses, our resources, and our allies. We must be ready for whatever Nigel throws at us.´ James bows his head. ´As you command, your majesty.´ He turns to address the members of the court, issuing orders, setting plans in motion. The great hall transforms from a place of ceremony into a war room, the atmosphere shifting from celebration to strategic planning. The reality of my new role crashes down upon me once more. I am not just a king; I am a commander, a strategist, a protector. I follow James towards the council chambers, my mind already racing, weighing options, considering possibilities. Nigel is coming, and I must be ready to meet him.
