The city air hangs thick and heavy around me, a miasma of exhaust fumes and unheard dreams. I pull my threadbare coat tighter, the collar scratching against my neck as I navigate the crowded sidewalk. Another day spent dodging indifferent shoulders and rumbling stomachs, another day closer to… what? I don't even know anymore. Then, it happens. A crumpled note, thrust into my hand by a woman whose face is quickly swallowed by the throng. Her eyes, for the briefest moment, lock with mine – a flicker of urgency, perhaps even pity, before she melts back into the city's grey canvas. Curiosity, a luxury I can barely afford, wins. I unfold the note. The paper is cheap, the ink smudged, but the message is clear: 'Find the phone booth on Bleecker. Instructions await.' Bleecker Street. It's not far, maybe ten blocks. Ten blocks closer to another dead end, probably. But something about the woman's eyes… The phone booth is a relic, a ghost of a bygone era amidst the sleek glass and steel of modern storefronts. It reeks of stale cigarettes and forgotten conversations. Hesitantly, I step inside. The air is close, almost suffocating. As I reach for the receiver, a slip of paper flutters down from above, landing at my feet. My heart pounds in my chest as I snatch it up. The message is brief, cryptic: 'Seek the raven's shadow. Where it falls at noon, the invitation lies.' A raven's shadow? This has to be some kind of joke. But the city's hum seems to fade, replaced by a strange, expectant silence. Noon. That gives me a few hours. I step out of the phone booth, the slip of paper clutched tightly in my hand. The sky is overcast, the sun a pale disc behind the clouds. Still, there are ravens everywhere in this city, perched atop buildings, scavenging in alleys. How am I supposed to find the raven? And what invitation? As I wander aimlessly, a memory flickers. A story my mother used to tell me when I was a child, before… before everything. A story about a hidden school, a place for children with unique gifts, powers they couldn't control. A place where they could learn to harness their abilities, to become something more. I shake my head, dismissing the thought. Fairy tales. That's all they are. Yet, a seed of hope has been planted, a fragile bloom pushing through the concrete of my despair. The clock tower strikes noon. The sound echoes through the streets, pulling me from my thoughts. I glance up, and that's when I see it. A raven, perched atop the clock tower, its shadow stretching long and dark across the cobblestones below. And lying directly in the path of that shadow, almost hidden in the grimy stones, is a sealed letter. My name is printed on the front in elegant, swirling script: Peter. Do I dare to pick it up? Do I dare to hope? This could be a cruel joke, a twisted game. But what if it's not? What if this is the chance I've been waiting for, the chance to finally understand… myself?

My fingers tremble as I reach for the letter. The paper feels strangely warm beneath my touch, almost alive. I hesitate for a moment, a whirlwind of doubt and anticipation swirling within me. My fingers tremble as I reach for the letter. The paper feels strangely warm beneath my touch, almost alive. I hesitate for a moment, a whirlwind of doubt and anticipation swirling within me. What if this is all a mistake? What if I'm setting myself up for disappointment? But the allure of the unknown, the desperate yearning for something more, outweighs my fear. With a deep breath, I break the seal and unfold the letter. The script inside is even more elegant than the address on the front, penned in an ink that shimmers with an ethereal light. ´Peter, We have been watching you. We know of your struggles, your loneliness, your… potential. For years, you have suppressed the extraordinary abilities that lie dormant within you, fearing their power, their unpredictability. But fear not, Peter, for you are not alone. There are others like you, children blessed – or cursed – with talents that defy the mundane. We offer you a place among them, a sanctuary where you can learn to control your powers, to understand your true potential. Control Your Mind School awaits you. If you choose to accept our invitation, follow the instructions enclosed. Your journey begins now. The letter is signed with a single, stylized initial: ´M.´ Enclosed within the letter is a small, intricately folded map. It depicts a location I've never seen before, a place shrouded in mist and mystery. According to the map, the school is located deep within the Catskill Mountains, far from the prying eyes of the ordinary world. At the bottom of the map, a final instruction: ´Seek the whispering falls. They will guide your way.´ Whispering Falls. It sounds like something out of a dream, a figment of my imagination. But the letter in my hand is real, the map tangible. A shiver runs down my spine, a mixture of excitement and apprehension. This is it, isn´t it? The turning point. The moment where my life veers off in a completely unexpected direction. I look around, the city suddenly seeming distant and unreal. The faces of the passersby are blurred, their voices a muffled hum. I feel like I'm standing on the edge of a precipice, about to leap into the unknown. Do I dare to leave everything I know behind? Do I dare to embrace the possibility of a life beyond my wildest dreams? I clutch the letter and the map tightly in my hand, my knuckles white. The decision is mine, and mine alone. And as I gaze towards the distant horizon, where the mountains rise like ancient sentinels, I know what I have to do. A sense of purpose, long dormant, begins to stir within me. It´s a long and winding road, and it begins with a whisper in the wind.

The bus rumbles along the winding mountain road, each turn taking me further away from the city and closer to the unknown. The landscape outside the window transforms from concrete jungle to a tapestry of green, the air growing cleaner and crisper with every mile. I glance at the map again, tracing the route with my finger. The Whispering Falls are marked as a small, almost insignificant point, but according to the instructions, they hold the key to finding the school. As the sun begins to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple, the bus pulls to a stop at a small, deserted crossroads. The driver, a gruff man with tired eyes, nods towards a dirt path leading into the woods. "Whispering Falls," he grunts, before slamming the door shut and driving off into the twilight. I step off the bus, the silence of the mountains pressing in around me. The air is cool and damp, carrying the scent of pine and damp earth. I pull my coat tighter, a shiver running down my spine. The path is barely visible in the fading light, but I can hear the faint sound of rushing water in the distance. Taking a deep breath, I start walking. The trees loom tall and imposing on either side of the path, their branches intertwined overhead, creating a canopy of shadows. The only light comes from the sliver of moon peeking through the leaves, casting eerie patterns on the ground. As I venture deeper into the woods, the sound of the rushing water grows louder, until it becomes a deafening roar. And then, I see them. The Whispering Falls. A cascade of water plunges down a sheer cliff face, crashing into a pool below. The mist rises up, creating a shimmering veil that obscures the surrounding landscape. I approach the falls cautiously, drawn in by their mesmerizing beauty. As I get closer, I notice something strange. The water doesn't just crash; it seems to whisper. Faint voices, murmuring secrets on the wind. I strain my ears, trying to decipher the words, but they are just beyond my grasp. Then, I see it. Behind the falls, almost hidden by the cascading water, is a narrow opening in the rock face. A cave, shrouded in mist and shadow. This must be it. The entrance to Control Your Mind School. My heart pounds in my chest as I take a step towards the falls. The water is icy cold as it washes over me, soaking me to the bone. But I don't stop. I push through the veil of water and into the cave. The darkness inside is absolute, the air thick with anticipation. I take another step, and then another, until I am completely enveloped by the unknown. The whispering of the falls fades behind me, replaced by an eerie silence. I´m now entering a world where reality blurs and magic awaits.
