The humid air hangs heavy as I adjust my Kyoshi headdress, the familiar weight a comfort. The training yard bustles with the rhythmic clash of wooden swords, the shouts of encouragement a constant hum against the backdrop of Kyoshi Island's serene cliffs. As leader, it's my duty to ensure the warriors are prepared, that peace prevails on our shores. But lately, a disquiet simmers beneath the surface, a feeling I can't quite place. "Suki, your guidance!" A young warrior, Hana, calls out, her face flushed with exertion. I offer a nod and step into the circle, demonstrating a precise parry, the wooden sword singing through the air. My body moves with practiced ease, each stance, each breath honed through years of training. Yet, today, the movements feel… different. Stronger, somehow. Later, as the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in fiery hues, I find myself alone in the training yard. The others are at supper, but I need a moment of solitude, a chance to unravel the knot of unease within me. I close my eyes, drawing in a deep breath, the scent of the ocean filling my lungs. It's then that I feel it—a tingling sensation deep within my core, a warmth spreading through my veins like wildfire. Suddenly, the air around me shimmers, the bamboo training dummies swaying gently, as if caught in an unseen breeze. My eyes snap open, and I stumble back, my heart pounding in my chest. What was that? I reach out a tentative hand, and the air crackles with energy. I try to make a fist, channeling the energy like i have seen earthbenders do, and the sensation grows stronger, more intense. A small rock on the ground lifts into the air, suspended as if by an invisible string. Fear mixes with a strange exhilaration. This is… bending. But I'm not a bender. My ancestors weren't benders. We are Kyoshi Warriors, protectors of the island, skilled in the art of fan and sword, not the manipulation of the elements. A voice slices through the night. "Intriguing. Most intriguing." I whirl around, my hand instinctively reaching for my fan. A figure stands silhouetted against the twilight, cloaked in blue-purple robes with red lining, his face obscured by a white mask bearing the symbol of a red lotus on its forehead. He seems ancient, powerful, an aura of menace radiating from him. "Who are you?" I demand, my voice trembling slightly. "I am Darth Naraku," the figure says, his voice a raspy whisper. "And I believe you possess something that belongs to me." He pauses, his unseen eyes seeming to pierce through me. "Or rather, something you need to learn to control."

"What are you talking about?" I demand, my heart pounding against my ribs. "Guards!" I glance around, hoping to see the familiar faces of my fellow Kyoshi Warriors, but the training yard remains deserted, bathed in the eerie glow of the twilight. Naraku chuckles, a dry, rasping sound that sends shivers down my spine. "You don't know, do you?" "Know what?" I retort, trying to project an air of confidence I don't feel. Naraku nods slowly. "Yes, I'm not surprised. Anyone who had gone through what you did would want to forget." Confusion swirls within me, a disorienting fog clouding my thoughts. "Forget what?" He gestures towards my necklace, the delicate silver chain Sokka had placed around my neck on our wedding day. "Let's begin with that." My fingers instinctively touch the cool metal, the familiar weight grounding me. "What about it?" "What do you remember on the tenth anniversary of the end of the war?" Naraku asks, his voice a low murmur that seems to weave its way into my mind. The question is like a key unlocking a hidden door. Images flood my consciousness, fragmented and distorted at first, then coalescing into a clearer picture. I see myself at a grand celebration, a party held in honor of Fire Lord Zuko. As a Kyoshi Warrior, I was assigned to protect him during the event. "How's everything going?" I ask, my voice echoing in my memory. "All good here, boss," Ty-Lee replies, her ever-present smile as radiant as the setting sun. Aang and Katara enter, their presence radiating warmth and joy. I smile, embracing my sister-in-law in a warm hug. "How are you doing?" I ask. Katara places a hand on her growing belly, her eyes shining with happiness. "We're doing fine. Just a little morning sickness. You?"

Before I can respond to Katara, Sokka bursts into the room, his laughter booming through the air, a clear sign he’s had a bit too much to drink. ´I’ve been better,´ I manage to say to Katara, offering a weak smile. Ty-Lee glances at me, her expression a mixture of concern and amusement. ´You want me to…?´ she asks, her voice barely a whisper. I sigh, shaking my head. ´No, I’ll handle this.´ I walk towards Sokka, my footsteps firm despite the turmoil within me. ´I think you’ve had enough,´ I say, my voice laced with a warning. ´I’m not a kid,´ Sokka retorts, his words slurring slightly. ´And I’m still thirsty!´ He reaches for a bottle of wine, but I’m quicker. I snatch it from his grasp and, with a swift movement, guide him towards the exit. ´What are you thinking? This is a party!´ I exclaim, pushing him gently outside. ´Oh, so now you care about the great Fire Lord?´ he mumbles, leaning heavily against the wall. ´I’m his bodyguard, remember? It’s my job to worry about him.´ ´Maybe you should marry him, then,´ he says, his words laced with a bitterness that cuts deeper than I care to admit. I sigh, turning away from him. ´Where are you going?´ he calls after me. ´Away from you. I’ll deal with you when you’re sober.´ He mumbles something unintelligible as I walk away, my shoulders slumping with each step. Finding a quiet corner, I lean against the cool wall, tears welling up in my eyes. The joy of the celebration feels like a distant memory, replaced by a gnawing ache in my heart. Just then, I hear the unmistakable sound of someone retching nearby. ´Now what?´ I mutter under my breath. I follow the sound and find Mai, her face pale and drawn, leaning over a potted plant. ´Oh… I…´ she manages to choke out between heaves.´
