The humid night air clings to my bare arms as I sit on the porch swing, the pink silk of my dress a stark contrast to the splintered wood beneath me. Tears have left salty tracks on my cheeks, and my carefully applied mascara is probably running down my face. Prom night. Supposed to be the pinnacle of senior year, the perfect fairytale ending before reality sets in. Instead, it feels like the cruelest joke the universe has ever played on me. Headlights cut through the darkness, pulling me from my self-pity. A sleek, low-slung car glides to a stop in front of the house, its curves gleaming under the porch light. It's…an Italian sports car? A make and model I can't even begin to name, but the kind you see in movies, driven by impossibly handsome men with even more impossibly deep pockets. The door swings open, and a figure unfolds from the driver's seat. Tall, broad-shouldered, bathed in the soft glow of the streetlamp. It's Danny. My Danny? But… different. He’s traded his usual worn jeans and faded band t-shirt for a white tuxedo. Sunglasses shield his eyes, but I can see the familiar curve of his smile. He looks like he’s stepped out of a James Bond movie. "Danny?" The question slips out before I can stop it, laced with disbelief. Danny, who lives in a tiny bungalow on the other side of town, who works part-time at the hardware store to help his mom, is standing in front of me in a freaking tuxedo next to a car that probably costs more than our house. He pushes the sunglasses up his nose, his brown eyes crinkling at the corners. "The one and only, Angela. Ready to go to prom?" The absurdity of it all hits me, a wave of disbelief washing over the pain and humiliation from earlier. "Prom?" I repeat, my voice barely a whisper. "But… how? What is all this?" He doesn't answer right away, just walks towards me, his movements smooth and confident. He stops at the bottom of the porch steps, looking up at me. "Tonight's about you, Angela. About having the best night, no matter what. So, are you in?" He extends a hand, his expression earnest and open. For a moment, I hesitate. This is insane. This is Danny, but not the Danny I know. But then I see the genuine concern in his eyes, the unwavering loyalty that has always been there, beneath the surface. A smile tugs at my lips. Maybe, just maybe, this night isn't a complete disaster after all. Maybe, with Danny, it could even be… unforgettable. I take his hand. "Okay, Danny," I say, a newfound spark of excitement flickering within me. "Let's go to prom."

Danny guides me to the passenger seat, his touch gentle and reassuring against my arm. The leather is cool and smooth beneath my fingers as I settle in, the scent of new car mingling with something else, something subtly masculine and intriguing. He closes the door with a soft click, then disappears around the front to slip behind the wheel. The engine purrs to life, a low, powerful rumble that vibrates through the car. He leans over the console, reaching into the back seat. "Almost forgot," he says with a grin, producing a delicate box. He opens it to reveal a corsage of rare, deep purple orchids. "I know it's not the usual roses, but I thought these suited you better." The orchids are exquisite, their velvety petals almost black in the dim light of the car. They exude a subtle, exotic fragrance that fills the small space. He carefully fastens the corsage to my wrist, his fingers brushing against my skin, sending a shiver up my spine. "They're beautiful, Danny," I say, my voice a little breathless. "Thank you." He pulls away, his gaze meeting mine. "So," he says, a hint of mischief in his eyes, "before the prom, there's usually this tradition… dinner. I figured we should uphold it." He pauses for effect. "I made reservations at Chateau Petite. Hope you're hungry." Chateau Petite! It's the most exclusive restaurant in town, a place where reservations are booked months in advance and the prices are astronomical. I can't even imagine how he managed to get a table, let alone afford it. "Chateau Petite?" I repeat, my eyebrows raised in surprise. "Danny, how…?" He just winks. "Let's just say I know a guy." He puts the car in gear and pulls smoothly away from the curb. As we glide down the street, leaving my old life behind, a sense of surreal excitement bubbles up inside me. The air is filled with the scent of orchids, the rumble of the engine, and the promise of a night I never could have imagined. "So," I say, turning to Danny with a smile, "tell me everything. Where did you get this car? And what's with the sudden transformation?"

Danny takes a deep breath, his hands tightening on the steering wheel for a moment before he relaxes. ´Okay, here´s the thing,´ he begins, his voice taking on a slightly sheepish tone. ´My… my family recently came into some money. Danny takes a deep breath, his hands tightening on the steering wheel for a moment before he relaxes. ´Okay, here´s the thing,´ he begins, his voice taking on a slightly sheepish tone. ´My… my family recently came into some money. A lot of money, actually.´ He glances at me, gauging my reaction. ´Turns out, my great-uncle, the one we never really talked about? He was loaded. And he left everything to us.´ My jaw drops. A rich, secret uncle? It sounds like something out of a movie. ´You´re kidding,´ I say, shaking my head in disbelief. ´I had no idea. You never said anything.´ He shrugs. ´It all happened pretty fast. And honestly, I didn´t want things to change between us.´ He looks at me, his eyes pleading. ´I´m still the same Danny, Angela. Money doesn´t change that.´ I believe him. I know Danny. But still, it´s a lot to take in. The Italian sports car, the tuxedo, the Chateau Petite… it all makes sense now, but it´s still overwhelming. We pull into the parking lot of Chateau Petite, and I frown. It´s completely deserted. No other cars, no valet, nothing. ´Are you sure this place is even open?´ I ask, a knot of worry forming in my stomach. ´Maybe they messed up the reservation.´ Danny just smiles, a confident, almost mischievous glint in his eyes. ´Trust me,´ he says. ´It´s open. For us.´ He parks the car and comes around to open my door, offering me his hand. As we approach the entrance, I notice a sign hanging on the door: ´Closed for Private Party.´ I stop dead in my tracks. ´Danny, what´s going on?´ He takes my hand and leads me towards the door, his smile widening. ´I wanted tonight to be special, Angela. Unforgettable.´ He opens the door and gestures for me to enter. ´I reserved the entire restaurant. Just for us.´ I step inside, and the breath catches in my throat. The Chateau Petite is even more opulent than I imagined. Crystal chandeliers sparkle overhead, casting a warm glow on the plush velvet booths and the perfectly set tables. Soft music plays in the background, and the air is filled with the aroma of gourmet food. A waiter in a crisp white uniform approaches us, his eyes widening slightly when he sees Danny. ´Mr. Davies, welcome,´ he says, bowing slightly. ´Everything is prepared as you requested.´ He leads us to a secluded table by the window, overlooking the twinkling lights of the city. I sink into the plush cushions, still trying to process everything that´s happening. The deserted parking lot, the ´closed for private party´ sign, the entire restaurant reserved just for us… It´s like a dream. I turn to Danny, my heart pounding in my chest. ´Danny,´ I say, my voice barely a whisper. ´This is… incredible. But why? Why did you do all this?´
