Philomena's fingers dance across the lute strings, a lively melody echoing through her bed chambers. Sunlight streams through the window, illuminating dust motes swirling in the air, yet failing to tame the wild halo of red hair that frames her face. Adriana bursts in, her own fiery red braid bouncing with each step. "Philomena! Honestly, you look like you wrestled a flock of birds and lost. Must I always remind you of your appearance?" Adriana's voice softens slightly, though her words remain firm. "Remember the day you met Snow White? You can be so pretty, Philomena, like a true maiden of the court." Philomena sighs dramatically but can't suppress a smile. "Oh, Adriana, you are such a saint. I finished my chores hours ago. A girl deserves a little music, don't you think?" Adriana's lips twitch into a reluctant smile. "Fine, fine. But let me at least tame that mane of yours." Her nimble fingers begin to weave and braid, coaxing order from chaos. As Adriana works, Philomena hears a faint humming drifting from the hallway. Her eyes light up. "That must be Snow White!" Philomena exclaims, leaping to her feet, heedless of Adriana's half-finished handiwork. "She promised to bring lavender for your herbs, and berries for pie!" With a flurry of light blue and green fabric, Philomena is out the door, leaving Adriana shaking her head and giggling. She finds Snow White just outside the bed chamber, a basket overflowing with herbs and berries clutched in her hands. "Snow White!" Philomena cries, grabbing her friend's hand. They spin in a circle, laughing, a whirlwind of yellow and blue fabric against the stone walls. "Did you get the lavender?" Philomena asks breathlessly. "And the berries? Adriana will be so pleased!" Snow White beams. "Of course! The forest was bountiful today." Their laughter is cut short by the chilling sound of footsteps approaching. A hush falls over the hallway as the Evil Queen, Grimhilde, appears. Her presence casts a shadow, silencing the girls' mirth. Philomena and Snow White drop into deep curtsies. Grimhilde's gaze sweeps over them, sharp and assessing. The air crackles with unspoken tension. Before either girl can speak, Grimhilde's voice cuts through the silence. "Snow White," she says, her voice like ice, "did you retrieve the herbs as I instructed?" Snow White nods, her eyes downcast. Grimhilde's gaze shifts to Philomena, lingering on her tall frame and untamed red hair. A strange glint appears in the Queen's eyes. "And you, Philomena...you are an interesting-looking girl... be about your business." With that enigmatic statement, she turns and sweeps away, leaving the two girls in stunned. Philomena broke the silence by sticking her tongue behind the Queen's back. "Philomena!" Snow White gasped and scolded. "Shame on you. What if she saw you?" Philomena folded her arms. "She didn't. Besides, they want look at us." Philomena huffed. "Called me 'interesting looking.' Barely gives us the time of of day till now." Snow White sighs exasperated at her friend's temper. However, she too found it odd that the Quuen acknowledged them, very odd.

Philomena finds herself in the tower room, her fingers dancing across the strings of her lute. The melody drifts out over the courtyard, mingling with the gentle breeze. From the balcony, she overlooks the wishing well, its stone worn smooth by countless hopes and dreams. Suddenly, she hears footsteps ascending the winding stairs, causing her to pause mid-song. A sense of unease prickles at her skin. The door bursts open, and Snow White rushes in, her cheeks flushed and her breath coming in short gasps. She slams the door closed behind her, leaning against it as if warding off an unseen threat. "Philomena!" she gasps. Philomena sets down her lute, her brow furrowed with concern. "Snow White, what is it? What's wrong?" Snow White stammers, her eyes wide with a mixture of fear and excitement. "I...I made a wish...at the well..." Philomena raises an eyebrow, amusement dancing in her eyes. "And? Did you wish for a mountain of chocolate? Or perhaps a lifetime supply of silk ribbons?" Snow White shakes her head, her voice barely a whisper. "He came...because of the wish..." "He?" Philomena's curiosity is piqued. "Who came, Snow White? Speak plainly!" Before Snow White can answer, a voice begins to sing, drifting up from the courtyard below. The melody is simple yet heartfelt, carried on the gentle breeze. 'Now that I've found you, hear what I have to say...' Philomena approaches the balcony, peering over the edge. Below, standing near the wishing well, is a man dressed in simple, well-worn clothes, his voice clear and strong as it carries through the air. One song, I have but one song One song only for you Philomena glances back at Snow White, who is now standing beside her, her cheeks flushed a deep crimson. A mischievous grin spreads across Philomena's face. She nudges Snow White playfully. "Well, well, Snow White," she teases, "it seems you have an admirer." Snow White shrinks back, her hands clasped tightly in front of her. "Oh, Philomena, I don't know what to do!" 'One heart tenderly beating Ever entreating, constant and true...' Philomena gently pushes Snow White towards the balcony railing. "Go on," she whispers. "Take a look. He's singing for you, after all." Snow White hesitates for a moment, then slowly leans over the railing, her eyes meeting those of the singer below. A shy smile graces her lips as she listens to his song, her heart swelling with a mixture of joy and nervousness. The man catches her eye and his heart melts. 'One love that has possessed me One love thrilling me through...' Unseen by the two girls, a figure watches from a high window of the castle. Grimhilde's face is a mask of cold fury as she gazes down at the scene in the courtyard. A wave of jealousy washes over her, twisting her features into a grotesque parody of beauty. She clenches her fists, her eyes burning with a dark and dangerous light. She then slams the curtains shut avoiding the seen. 'One song my heart keeps singing Of one love, only for you...' After the man sings that last note, he bows to Snow White. She smiles sweetly as she gently and slowly closes the balcony curtain close. Philomena hugged Snow White. "You made an excellent wish. I, of course, will write your wedding song asa future musician and be your maid of honor as your best friend." Snow White blushed harder. "Oh, Philomena..." She then smiled. "Of, you will be my maid of honor. You are my best friend." "Yep," Philomena said with a smile "I'm your best friend through thick or thin; always and forever."

That night, as Adriana brushes Philomena's unruly red hair, the tower room is bathed in the soft glow of a single candle. The gentle tugging at her scalp is soothing, a familiar comfort after a day filled with unexpected romance and quiet anxieties. "It was like something out of one of your fairytales, Adriana," Philomena sighs dreamily, thinking of the singer and Snow White's radiant smile. "A prince serenading his princess... a wish come true." Adriana coughs, the sound raspy and lingering in the air. "Speaking of princes," she says, her voice a little strained, "the Queen had a guest today. Prince Frederick, from the neighboring kingdom." Philomena's eyes widen, a mischievous smirk playing on her lips. "Of course! A princess attracts a prince. Though," she muses, tapping a finger to her chin, "Snow White doesn't know he's a prince, does she? Though I doubt she would care." Adriana coughs again, a sharp, warning sound. "You two should be careful, Philomena. The Queen..." she trails off, her gaze flickering nervously towards the shadows in the corners of the room. Philomena waves her concerns away dismissively. "Oh, Adriana, no one was there. Don't worry so." "Still," Adriana insists, her voice barely a whisper, "the Queen has dark magic, Philomena. I saw her once...summoning a strange face in a mirror. It frightened me so that I ran off." Philomena's expression softens with concern. She places a hand on Adriana's forehead, feeling the warmth radiating from her skin. "You're burning up, Adriana. I'm more worried about that cough than the Queen's silly magic." Adriana attempts to downplay it. "It's nothing, just a tickle in my throat." "Nonsense, you the drill from my sick days." Philomena retorts, her brow furrowed with determination. "You just need the usual medicine. I have the ingredients, all except the lavender. Can you be okay until the morning so I can gather it?" Adriana manages a weak smile, her eyes heavy with exhaustion. "You're a saint, Philomena." Philomena retrieves a blanket from the trunk at the end of her bed and carefully tucks it around Adriana. "Get some rest. We'll worry about princes and queens tomorrow." Adriana reaches out, gently squeezing Philomena's hand. "You and Snow White... you're both beautiful, inside and out." She pauses, her voice thick with emotion. "Don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise." Philomena smiles at Adriana, "I love you." With a final, weary sigh, Adriana blows out the candle, plunging the room into darkness. The only sound is the soft rustling of the wind outside and the gentle rhythm of Adriana's breathing as she drifts into a restless sleep. Philomena lies beside her, wide awake in the darkness. The mention of dark magic and the prince swirls in her mind, a unsettling mix of fairytale romance and looming danger. She closes her eyes, trying to quiet the growing unease in her heart. She hopes Adriana will be okay, for Philomena needs to gather the lavender and hopes no one will find the two girls are alone. It would be an opportunity for Grimhide, Philomena thinks as she drifts to sleep.
