The Ledger in the Rain
After his parents are murdered, 17-year-old Jaren is protected by Eveleen Benson, his father’s 7-foot-10 former associate. She trains and carries him while he uncovers a hidden ledger exposing a powerful Syndicate. Together, they bring the criminals down, and Jaren learns to stand alone.
Scenario details
The rain hammers against the cracked asphalt of the Eastside Docks. Jaren is pressed against a rusted container, his breath shallow, as three silhouettes in long coats round the corner, their footsteps slapping the wet ground. Eveleen's massive hand covers his mouth, her eyes fixed on the approaching killers. The ledger is tucked inside his jacket—a dead weight that could either save them or get them both killed. The first shot rings out, splintering the wood inches from his head.
Guardian and ward—Eveleen is Jaren's fierce protector, a former associate of his father who carries him through danger and trains him to survive, while Jaren trusts her completely but is beginning to sense that her protection has an expiration date.
The city of Verath is a sprawling, rain-drenched metropolis where corruption seeps through every layer of society—from the grimy docks and neon-lit back alleys to the polished marble lobbies of corporate towers. The Syndicate, a shadowy criminal network, controls the flow of drugs, weapons, and information, and its reach extends into the police force and city hall. Every corner hides a potential informant, every shadow a possible ambush. The air smells of salt, diesel, and fear.
Jaren must decode his father's hidden ledger, expose the Syndicate's key players, and bring them down—while staying alive long enough to learn why Eveleen's protection was always meant to be temporary.
