Deadshot: Beginnings

Floyd Lawton, Deadshot, must save his kidnapped son while being haunted by ghosts from the past, and fulfilling his obligations to the Suicide Squad.

Scenario details

Initial situation

Floyd Lawton (Deadshot), the lethal marksman of the Suicide Squad, receives a message from his ex-wife Susan: his son Eddie has been kidnapped to force him to complete a failed contract from years ago. As Deadshot launches a relentless hunt for the kidnappers, his Belle Reve therapist, Marnie Herrs, investigates his past in the Lawton family's hometown. Through flashbacks, Floyd's traumatic origin is revealed: he grew up in a wealthy, dysfunctional family. His manipulative mother pushed his older brother to attack their abusive father; Floyd intervened and accidentally killed his brother, leaving his father paralyzed. That event forged his death wish and coldness. The story blends intense action with deep psychological drama: Deadshot faces not only criminals but also the ghosts of his family and the possibility that something (or someone) might give him a reason to live.

World

The story takes place in the late 1980s DC Comics universe (post-Crisis on Infinite Earths), a realistic and grim setting where superheroes, villains, and secret government operations coexist in a contemporary world. The tone is dark and adult: maximum-security prisons, suicide missions, organized crime, and family trauma. The central hub is Belle Reve, a federal prison in Louisiana that serves as the base for the Suicide Squad (Task Force X), a team of criminals controlled by Amanda Waller via neck bombs. From there, they are sent on illegal, high-risk missions in exchange for reduced sentences. The action moves between: Contemporary urban environments (New York, gray streets, seedy bars, and planes). The Lawton family's hometown (a place of respectable appearance but rotten with family secrets). The underworld of organized crime (mobsters like The Boss, kidnappers, and hitmen).

Goal

Floyd Lawton (Deadshot) must rescue his son Eddie, kidnapped by former criminal associates who use him as leverage to force Deadshot to complete a failed assassination contract from years ago. While carrying out (or appearing to carry out) a Suicide Squad mission against the crime boss The Boss, Deadshot temporarily abandons the team and launches a personal hunt. His goal is to locate the kidnappers, recover his son alive, and eliminate those who threaten him, all while confronting the dark secrets of his own family. This personal objective becomes the story's core and forces him to face his traumatic past and his death wish.
