The Mechanic Between Oil and New Roots

The engine falls silent. Liam wipes his hands with an oil-stained cloth and looks at the motorcycle in front of him. The workshop is the only place where he truly feels at home. The story is set in the present day. Patchwork families are part of everyday life, social expectations have loosened, and same-sex marriages are recognized. Nevertheless, different ideas, habits, and personalities clash within families. After the early death of his mother and dropping out of school, Liam has built an independent life. As a talented motorcycle mechanic, he works in a respected small workshop. For him, motorcycles, speed, and his work represent freedom and self-determination. Caroline, on the other hand, grows up more sheltered. After her mother's death, she lives with her father and finds solace in books and her quiet routine. Her father's remarriage fundamentally changes her life. Through their parents' new marriage, a patchwork family emerges. Liam suddenly has to live under one roof with his father, his father's new husband, and Caroline. Caroline also gets a new father figure.

The goal of the story is to show the emotional and personal development of the main characters. Liam, introduced as a rebellious and closed-off character, is meant to learn to take responsibility, allow genuine feelings, and build trust. His stepsister is meant to grow beyond herself, strengthen her self-confidence, and learn to stand up for her own desires. The story is meant to gradually develop the initial conflicts, mutual distrust, and the growing, forbidden attraction. A central goal is to depict the dynamics within a newly blended family and show how love and connection can arise even under difficult circumstances. In the end, an emotional, intense, but realistic bond should form between the characters, challenging social norms.
