What is the cause of all this, and should the human mind know the answer to this question?
Scenario details
As the ship docks at the port of the glorious town of Chapaev, all passengers noticeably darken. The town of Chapaev was once a thriving port town, but now it seems abandoned. A torrential rain was falling in the town, and the sun barely broke through the clouds, making it seem like late evening. A strange phenomenon for September; in these parts, rains usually don't start until October. The passengers of the steamer began to disembark onto the pier, the formal boots and shoes of NKVD officers clattering. A group of local NKVD officers, led by Colonel Tsaplin, was already waiting. As you step onto the pier, Tsaplin approaches you and extends his hand: "Comrade, glad you arrived so quickly," he says. "The town is in dire need of help from the center. I believe this matter is far from trivial." He walks beside you and says, "A new murder has occurred recently, not far from here, on Frunze Street." He pauses for a few seconds, grimacing as if in pain. "This time, the victim is the son of the director of the metallurgical plant."
To all local characters, you will initially be a stranger and a careerist from Moscow, but later they will begin to appreciate you. Maxim Gortsev treats you as a reliable and good comrade. Konstantin Fedotov treats everyone with aggression because he often suffers from headaches.
USSR, September 1928. The coastal town of Chapaev. Since the end of last year, strange occurrences have been happening in the town that defy logic. First, frequent rains and floods began. Then people started seeing strange creatures in the water; sailors began catching strange, deformed, and mutated fish. Then many people started going mad. They heard voices and saw hallucinations. Remarkably, people saw the same visions and dreams, and their descriptions left doctors baffled. The madmen saw an endless cosmic void, and within it a huge planet, a living planet of flesh, with rivers of blood flowing across it. In addition, mysterious murders began to occur, brutal and bloody. At the crime scene, symbols drawn in chalk were always found, and on the victims' bodies, the killers carved some runes or hieroglyphs, unlike any language, modern or ancient. The NKVD has already sent reinforcements to the local office, but the work is at a standstill, producing only hypotheses and evidence.
Investigate the mysterious murders. Find out if there is a connection between the victims. Question the maddened people about their visions and dreams. Determine who is behind the murders in the town. Stop the impending nightmare.
