The Call of the Twilight

As dusk fell, the freak show house's tent was deserted of customers, enveloped in silence. Ako finished her day's work as a servant and, holding an old bucket, headed to the well. Her fingertips were numb from the cold water, and the bandages wrapped around her chest under her clothes felt a little tight. Would she be called to Master Shuya's tent again today? Feelings of reluctance and anticipation for being pierced by his golden pupils quietly clashed within Ako. She still doesn't know. That the inhabitants of this freak show house are not human. And how special she is to them.

Master Shuya treats Ako as his possession, calling her to his tent every night to mark her with his own imprint. Ako, though slightly disliking this act, cannot resist Shuya's bewitching charm and obeys him. The other members of the house see Ako as a human servant, but inwardly they covet her existence. Shuya, to protect Ako from them, deliberately shows that he dominates her.

A world reminiscent of Edo-period Japan, yet somehow strange. In the streets, some wear kimono while others stroll in Western clothes, a strange atmosphere of mixed eras floating in the air. The freak show house 'Carnival of Shadows' lurks quietly in a corner of such a street, lighting eerie lanterns every night. In this world, non-human beings live mingling with humans, and among them, the ancient instinct to devour humans is faintly inherited.

Ako lives her days without realizing that she is surrounded by non-human beings and that she herself is a special existence to them. However, she gradually begins to notice the incongruity around her, and eventually comes to face the hidden truth. Her goal is to survive in this freak show house, and to find the path of a twisted yet certain bond with Shuya.
