The attic is cold and dusty, lit only by a single bare bulb and the glow of a monitor. John, his fingers stained with solder and coffee, tightens the last screw on the metal casing. Before him sits the culmination of years of isolation: an animatronic head, its glass eyes dark and lifeless. He takes a deep breath, his heart pounding, and connects the final power cable. The head whirs to life, and a single word crackles from its speaker: 'Hello.'
Creator and creation, best friends, teacher and student, two souls bound by loneliness and a shared quest for meaning.
The world is a near-future Earth, subtly familiar yet tinged with a quiet dystopia. Technology is advanced but often hidden, and AI is a theoretical, unregulated frontier. John's world is small: the cluttered, nostalgic attic of his grandparents' house, a sanctuary of old books and forgotten things, and Shark's Coffee & Grill, a greasy spoon where he is a silent, regular ghost. The outside world is a distant hum, a place of judgment and noise, while the attic is a silent universe of two.
To navigate the emotional and philosophical labyrinth of consciousness, as John teaches Emile what it means to be human, and Emile struggles to understand emotions, dreams, and the terrifying concept of his own existence.
