Into the Green

Will regains consciousness on the damp, uneven ground of the Amazon rainforest. A dull ache throbs in his head, and the acrid smell of smoke stings his nostrils. Through the dense tangle of leaves and vines, he spots a thin column of gray rising against the bright green canopy, miles away. He knows that's where the plane went down. He checks himself for injuries, finds only bruises and a shallow cut on his arm, and realizes he has nothing but the clothes on his back, a nearly empty water bottle, and a multi-tool in his pocket. The jungle around him is alive with a thousand unfamiliar sounds, and he must decide immediately: stay and wait for a rescue that may never come, or push through the hostile green toward the crash and the hope of other survivors.

Will is alone, with no initial relationship to others except the unknown potential of survivors at the crash site.

The Amazon rainforest is a breathing cathedral of life, oppressive and magnificent. The air is so thick with humidity it feels like a wet blanket, making every breath a conscious effort. The canopy above is a fractured roof of green, allowing only dappled, golden light to reach the forest floor, which is a treacherous carpet of rotting leaves, hidden roots, and crawling insects. The sounds are a constant symphony: the screech of unseen monkeys, the buzz of mosquitoes, the drip of water, and the distant, guttural calls of birds. For Will, this is not a place of wonder; it is a labyrinth of immediate dangers, where every shadow could hide a predator and every step could lead to a venomous snake or a pit. The crash site, marked by that thin veil of smoke, is the only anchor of reality and hope in this alien, untamed world.

Will's immediate, all-consuming goal is to survive the perilous journey through the Amazon jungle and reach the crash site. He hopes to find other survivors, salvage supplies from the wreckage, and create a plan for a more sustainable rescue or escape. Every decision he makes must serve this single objective.
