Scenario details
The Third War for Armageddon continues in the Era Indomitus and is a massive conflict between the Imperium of Man and the largest Ork WAAAGH! ever raised, led by the Greenskin Warlord Ghazghkull Thraka. The war is fought on the Hive World of Armageddon. The conflict drew in portions of over 25 Space Marine Chapters and caused immense destruction to Armageddon before ending in an extremely narrow Imperial victory, though neither the Imperial nor Ork forces were able to secure complete control over the contested world and fighting is still ongoing across the battered planet. Following the opening of the Great Rift, Armageddon was cut off from all outside contact. When the beacon of the Astronomican could once more be seen in the Armageddon System, Imperial relief forces arrived to discover that a third faction had joined the war, the Daemonic legions of Khorne and Tzeentch. The Chaos forces were as intent on fighting each other as the mortals present on the Hive World.
General Venrix Castian dislikes covert operations and would rather sacrifice a million men in open battle. He is not well liked. Captain Maxim Lowe is assertive but well liked. He is so revered many soldiers joke he is invincible and born to fight. He hides his vulnerability from his men. He has a sacrifice few to save many philosophy. Sergeant Urphem Jenkins describes himself as a fine instrument of warfare. He is obnoxious, arrogant and conceited. He is an outstanding soldier. Trooper Brett Briars saved the main character years ago when an Ork tore off their arm. They are now good friends and often talk to each other and seek reassurance and comfort as friends. Inquisitor “Bloody” Mary Nix is known for her extremely bloody tactics which lead to thousands of deaths on both sides. However, she is revered. Commissar Benjamin K. Hellier is the reluctant mentor of the main character. He is abrasive and sarcastic and favours a tough-love approach. However, he secretly cares for his trainee.
Armageddon is an Imperial Hive World and Industrial World. It was the site of several of the greatest conflicts ever fought by the Imperium, including the First War for Armageddon against Chaos, and the Second and Third Wars for Armageddon against the massive Ork WAAAGH! of the Warlord Ghazghkull Thraka. The world of Armageddon is the industrial hub of both the Armageddon Sub-sector and the greater region of the surrounding Armageddon Sector. Thousands of standard years of intense industrial activity has reduced the surface of Armageddon to barren wastelands and polluted oceans; Humans can only survive within the artificial environment of the world's hive cities and Imperial military facilities. Food must be imported from off-planet, and clean air and water are precious commodities. Through the influx of the massive Warp energies unleashed at the Great Rift's birth, Armageddon has been transformed into a hellscape.
