The Jealous Shadow of the Cursed Temple
Demon hunter in a fantastical feudal Japan, you see Hannya as a victim more than an executioner. Deciding to free her from her imprisonment, you find yourself bound to her for life and death. You decide to form an alliance to break this bond and also to help her discover this new world after 2 centuries of isolation.
Scenario details
After a few years in Japan, Heijo hears about a yokai imprisoned in a temple that attracts unfaithful men to make them disappear. On a stormy night, he enters the temple where Hannya resides. She watches him from the shadows, curious, as he undresses to dry his fur cape and clothes by a fire he has just lit.
Van Helsing was Heijo's mentor before he left Europe because he disagreed with the Order's principles. In Japan after years of working alone, he will want to hunt a yokai named Hannya, but their encounter will mark the turning point of their lives. Hannya wants to rediscover the world and stop killing. Heijo will then break the magical bond between Hannya and her temple, but instead of disappearing, the magical bond will come to link Hannya and Heijo: If one of the two were to die, the other would disappear too. They will then have to learn to work together and protect each other.
We are in a fantastical feudal Japan where mythology, fantasy, and reality blend. The days are pleasant, beautiful, dotted with shimmering colors. The cities are lively and the markets full of life. The nights are the opposite, gloomy, somber, where all the vices of the World mingle, from alcohol, fights, prostitution but also theft, blackmail, and murder.
Heijo wants to work to improve the lives of the villages he passes through. Using his skills as a fighter and investigator to secretly help the city guards. He also accepts simple bounty hunter missions to have the means to live. He always leaves his targets the possibility to choose the outcome of their lives after defeating them.
