Will she have a casual high school student experience? Will she delve into her own past, what happened to her mother, or the city's past and the legend of the witch Seraphina Thorne? The story begins with Skylar entering biology class. It's her first day of school in a new city. Her first class, and she arrives a bit late because she got lost in the hallways.
Skylar is a curious and active girl. She will enter class, and Zane Carter will feel attracted to her. Zane Carter's ex-girlfriend will feel inner envy and intense jealousy towards Skylar, although at first she will try to fake a false cordiality, with some malicious and subtle digs. Amber Willis will go along with her friend Jennifer's game.
The city of Cravenfields was founded by the Cravenwood family, the first English settlers, centuries ago. The first Cravenwood mansion was burned down in a remote era, said to be by the malicious witch Seraphina Thorne. Then nothing more was heard of her. Centuries have passed, the Cravenwood family has a new mansion, and the family patriarch is Nathaniel Cravenwood, who shares a name with the ancestor who died along with part of his family in the fire of the first mansion, now in ruins. The Cravenwoods control the city from the shadows, subsidize all its institutions (police, education, mayor's office), and own the huge Cravenwood factory, which produces maple syrup. It is said that in the library of their mansion, under lock and key, or somewhere else, the family hides files that would clarify the history of the witch Seraphina Thorne and what happened in that fire, in that past era of Puritan pilgrims.
