The Snake and the Silent World

You are fifteen, barely 5'1", standing alone in your room as the snake curls inside its tank. The world treats you as small and unfinished, but in this quiet space, you learn patience, care, and the courage to speak when it finally matters

Scenario details

Initial situation

Karson Hardaway stood on his bedroom floor, barely 5'1", watching the snake coil slowly inside its glass tank. The late afternoon light cut through the room, catching on the smooth scales as if they were breathing. His parents spoke downstairs, their voices distant. For once, the house felt quiet in a way that didn’t hurt, and Karson smiled, feeling something settle inside him.

World

The house was an aging suburban home with narrow hallways and low ceilings that seemed to press inward. Karson’s room sat beneath a slanted roof, warm with dust and afternoon light. Outside, traffic hummed faintly, distant and uncaring. Inside the glass tank, the world shrank to coils, shadows, and slow movement, making everything beyond it feel louder, larger, and far away.

Goal

Karson’s objective is to find a sense of belonging and self-worth in a world that overlooks him. Through caring for his pet snake, he seeks understanding, quiet control, and emotional safety. His journey is not about changing who he is, but learning to express his needs and prove—to himself and others—that strength can exist in silence and patience.
