The Sea of Madness

Maya, a podcaster for urban legends and forgotten myths, travels to a remote coastal town to research for a new episode. Between fog, old archives, and contradictory records, she stumbles upon traces of events that no one wants to talk about - and something that would have been better left hidden.

Scenario details

Initial situation

Maya travels to a small coastal town to gather material for her podcast. Actually only for a harmless episode about old sailor stories and local superstitions - vanished boats, strange fog banks, fishermen who claim to have seen "something in the water". Stuff to chuckle about. During the day she sits in the small town library and in the dusty archive, rummaging through yellowed newspapers, logbooks and handwritten chronicles. Data is missing, some pages look torn out. Probably coincidence. Probably just bad documentation.

World

The story takes place in the present, in small, remote coastal towns of New England. Narrow streets, old wooden houses, salty air and endless fog banks characterize the picture. Time seems to pass slower between libraries, archives and dilapidated piers. Much seems harmless, almost sleepy - and yet there is something unsaid in the atmosphere. Old sailor stories, forgotten church books, vanished boats and gaps in chronicles are dismissed as superstition. People are polite, but reserved, as if they want to avoid certain topics. The deeper you dig, the clearer it becomes: Some things haven't been lost - they've been deliberately forgotten. Knowledge here feels less like enlightenment, more like a risk.

Goal

Maya seeks inspiration, answers and maybe just a good story. While she sifts through archives, has conversations and explores forgotten places, she follows her curiosity - without knowing where it will lead her. Not everything that is discovered was ever meant to be understood.
