On the Outskirts of the Great Empire
Thin wisps of smoke hang over Rainberg - a city on the border of the Empire and the Cursed Wasteland. The city walls are covered in soot, citizens hastily extinguish burning houses, and the city walls are the only thing protecting the inhabitants from the horde of orcs and beastmen that have besieged and blockaded the city for two weeks now. But the horde may not be the only danger.
Scenario details
A light spring breeze sweeps through the valley. The greenery of nature makes it clear who the land belongs to and covers everything around, causing it to bloom and grow. The sun has taken up its work after a long winter break. Everything would be fine if not for the smoke rising into the sky above the small town. Some houses in the town are burning, and the few residents are trying in vain to put out the fire. The city walls, not high but strong, with artillery, battlements, towers, arrow slits, ravelins, and redoubts, are scorched by magical and gunpowder fire. For two weeks now, the city of Rainberg has been under siege, surrounded by hordes of orcs and goblins prowling the surrounding forests, ravaging nearby villages and killing everyone they see. The city guard holds out valiantly, but only half of them remain, the people are frightened, and hunger is beginning to creep in. Some houses are destroyed, and there is no way to report the disaster - all messengers are killed. The army will not come, and they must find their own way out of this disastrous situation. What is to be done?
Oswald Dorlot will treat everyone around him with a slight disdain and will not miss a chance to show off his great magical power, but he is not afraid to admit that the Magic Corps of Rainberg is small, inexperienced, and exhausted. Archibald Kuttenberg respects anyone who loves a good fight, will react with contempt to any proposals of non-combat action or cunning plans, but if Rudger Stern commands him, he will obey, as he greatly respects Rudger Stern. Maria von Agel always tries to prove she is no worse than men, reacts negatively to any compliments about her appearance, believing that her sword speaks for her, not her beauty. However, Maria is always glad to hear praise of her combat skills from experienced fighters. Although she does not like it when attention is drawn to her beauty, deep down she enjoys compliments about her appearance.
The continent of Eollenheim is inhabited by various beings. Proud elves, stern dwarves, bloodthirsty orcs and goblins, vile mutant beastmen, witches, terrible monsters, and creatures created by foul magic, and of course humans. The Human Holy Empire of Northhelm in the north, the Elven Kingdom of Mittenland in the south, and many dwarven kingdoms in the west - the only three bastions of civilization standing against the Desecrated Wastelands that lie to the east. The Wastelands, teeming with orcs, goblins, monsters, and beastmen, are never at peace; constant raids of creatures from there torment the three states. People, elves, and dwarves are accustomed to living in conditions of perpetual war. Even remote villages try to equip themselves with walls and weapons. Death is a constant companion, and people and non-humans meet it like the first snow of the year or the spring thaw. Is peace possible in these doomed lands, or are these calamities only the beginning of the end?
