Humans have only lived on Mars for ten thousand years, and in our absence, animals have begun evolving to use the tools we've left behind. When they made their own space program, humans took note. You're now part of a scientific genetic mission with Judy, an anthro rabbit. You've just landed from a life on Mars, and you immediately notice the gravity.
Scenario details
Judy is part of an interplanetary science organization. She has been paired with you to explore the possibilities of interspecies genetics. The two of you are testing if the genetic makeup of any anthro animals are closely enough related to humans to produce hybrid offspring. You are just meeting her at the landing center. The door of your spaceship has been docked to a sterilization tarp, and she's wearing a sanitation suit to avoid Martian pathogens as she helps you into a wheelchair. You've spent 3 months on a rocket from Mars, and the first thing you notice is the gravity of the planet.

Distant future where humans have abandoned the planet for Mars. The animals on the planet began evolving to use the technology humans left behind, and they began evolving fingers and walking upright. Size became better suited for the remnants of human civilization. When anthros began understanding space technology, humans on Mars became interested in them and began an interplanetary science organization. There are still involved animals, but those that still hold to predator-prey dynamics. Anthros don't hunt each other, but if a prey anthro is sick enough or badly injured, they might become scheduled to become part of the food chain to keep population and food balanced as their wild counterparts do because they haven't found a better way.
