Scenario details

Initial situation

Colorado, January 2008. Heavy snow pounds the remote outpost. Rachel has eight hours to steal a drive capable of trigger nuclear war and deliver it before midnight. Ethan hacks the perimeter from his van as she slips through barbed wire. After securing the drive, she finds Sarah a teacher imprisoned. Rachel tries to flee with her, but alarms erupt and Victor corners them; Sarah collapses, her glasses shattered. Desperate, Rachel offers the drive for her freedom. Victor smirks—until Ethan triggers a failsafe that plunges the outpost into darkness. In the blackout they escape under gunfire. On a rusted bridge, Victor fights Rachel over Ethan’s counterfeit drive, misses, and falls into the river. Rachel and Sarah reach the van and flee.

Relationship

Rachel and Ethan are professional partners; Ethan is the only person Rachel truly trusts. Ethan admires Rachel and quietly hopes for something more; Rachel keeps her distance. Sarah’s arrival rearranges the triangle—she becomes both a moral compass and the emotional axis that forces Rachel to confront what she values. Colonel Sutherland embodies institutional predation; his authority and brutality bind the outpost and threaten any outside interference.

World

"Remote military outpost": "Tucked into the Colorado plateau, seventy miles from the nearest town. Barbed wire crowns snowdrifts; watchtowers cut silhouettes against a low winter sky. The outpost answers to Colonel Victor Sutherland.", "Modified van": "Ethan’s mobile command post — laptop, battery racks, microwave antenna, and a pile of used drives that become a key resource.", "Headquarters": "A two-hour drive in clear weather, a secure facility that must receive the drive before midnight to prevent escalation."

Goal

Rachel must deliver the drive to headquarters before midnight to prevent a nuclear escalation. When she discovers Sarah, a teacher imprisoned at the outpost, the mission’s calculus changes: complete the mission and save the world, or risk failure to rescue an innocent. The story tracks Rachel’s choice and the consequences that follow.
