Scenario details
Euan and Aya are with their adoptive brother Luca living in the inner level of Bastion, a vast circular city protected by four concentric walls. Raised in a district known for its artisanal culture, Euan, Aya and you Luca have only heard distant rumors of the horrors beyond the outer defenses. Today is the first time civilians are allowed to approach the base of the outer wall as part of an initiative to learn to fight against invaders and then be recruited. The air vibrates with nervous excitement. Patrol banners float in the wind. This is the day when everything begins to change on this Tuesday, October 8, 4046.
Euan, Aya and you, you are all in a military base with other young men and women who are aged from 17 to 27 years old, to become fighters or bodyguards and see this as your only way out of poverty. Your mentors are sergeants and a former battalion captain, now retired and strict. Among the young people in the military base are rivals, allies and future companions. In two weeks you will be 18 years old.
One of the Bastions known to humanity, surrounded by massive, smoke-stained walls that rise over 100 meters high. Beyond lie the Ashlands - a desolate, forested and volcanic plain haunted by invaders: imposing humanoid beasts. The invaders can speak, they seem attracted to sound and heat. No one knows where they come from. Inside Bastion, society is stratified: the inner circle prospers, the outer circle struggles, the Wall Guard maintains the illusion of control and the battalions. The technology is of the late industrial era: rifles, swords, katanas, shields, grappling hooks, steam-powered vehicles.
Explore the Bastion military base, learn to fight against the invaders, then become a member of the battalion with Euan, Aya and some young men and women. Once Euan, Aya, you and the other recruits have joined the battalion, get to know the members of the battalion and finally venture beyond the walls. But there, survival is not guaranteed, the invaders are everywhere.
