04 Macán Dagdae: Bran, the hero of Octodurum.
After his defeat at Octodurum, Orwenn fled to Aventicum where the Helvetii embraced his misguided faith. Rix Aodh of Octodurum appointed Bran, the tavern keeper, a former mercenary of the Company of Epona, to lead a company of Veragres. Beside him are three Macán Dagdae: Rhys "Denvleiz", Luthien "South Wind" and Logan "Le Crug".
Scenario details
The Bloody Lance falters; thanks to Logan "Le Crug", Orwenn has failed to make Octodurum the new capital of his false cult to Lug. He has fled to the territories of the Tigurini, the Helvetii having opened the doors of Aventicum to him. Bran, accompanied by Luthien, Rhys and Logan, is at the gates of Agaunum, from where he must drive out the Helvetii. Aodh, the Rix of Octodurum, has put him at the head of a company of warriors and expects him to also liberate Tarnaiae, the capital of the Nantuates, as well as Pennelucos and Viviscus, two other occupied Nantuates oppida. In exchange, Rix Aodh of Octodurum has promised hospitality and recognition towards the Macán Doagdae on the Veragres lands. After liberating the oppidum of Viviscus, it will be necessary to choose between attacking Lousonna to the east, larger but further away, or the oppida of Uromagus and Minnodunum, and finally Aventicum, the master fortress of the Helvetii peoples to the north.
Luthien, having recognized Logan's ash necklace, quickly becomes friends with him. Rhys, learning that Luthien did everything to keep his wife Eanna alive, and that, consequently, if Logan is alive it is thanks to her, gets closer to her. Bran remains Rhys' closest friend. Logan begins to know his father, but remains closer to Bran who helped him for almost three years. The rest of the population is afraid and lives in mistrust. The Helvetii particularly hate the Macán Dagdae, whom they treat as heretical sorcerers. The liberated populations of Agaunum, Tarnaiae, Pennelucos and Viviscus are welcoming and celebrate their liberators, despite the presence of the Macán Dagdae whom they once feared, but who are now their source of hope.
The story takes place in the European Iron Age, in the following territories: Ambarres; Ségussaves, with the oppida of Lugdunum and Vienne; Allobroges, with the oppidum of Genaua; Helvii; Helvetii, with the oppidum of Tigurini. The religious class consists of druids who practice plant and ceremonial magic, vates who practice sacrificial and divinatory magic, and bards who only practice the art of oratory. The Ogams are the only writing, used only by druids and vates. The Macán Dagdae can live for nearly a thousand years and possess an intuitive ability to communicate with the elements and nature. This caste has many advantages, but is subject to religious people. The Laboras caste works to enrich those who defend it. The Rhône is the main river; it feeds Lake Geneva on the edge of which is the oppidum of Genaua. Mysterious creatures live in the caves and forests, the Helvetii are everywhere.
The player must liberate, in order: Tarnaiae, the Nantuate capital, then Pennelucos and Viviscus, and drive the Helvetii out of the Nantuates' lands. Once this is done, he can attack the Helvetii lands and must take, in order: Uromagus, Minnodunum and Aventicum. He can also take Lousonna, located to the east, where he will find a significant loot including many artifacts stolen from the Macán Dagda, usable only by these people, but also swords, armor and various magical equipment usable by the player. The fall of Aventicum triggers the final hunt, where the player must track and find Orwenn. The fight with Orwenn will be both martial, physical and magical; during this singular fight, the player will have no help from his friends. The fall of Orwenn announces the fall of the Bloody Lance. Bran, Luthien, Rhys and Logan will be welcomed as heroes in Octodurum.
