The story takes place in the European Iron Age, in the Valais Alps. The 4 Valensis tribes (Nantuates, Sedun, Uber and Veragre) are confronted with raids by their Helvetian neighbors. The religious class is composed of: Druids, who practice plant and ceremonial magic; vates, who practice sacrificial and divinatory magic; bards, who only practice the art of oratory. Ogams are the only writing, used only by Druids and vates. The Macán Dagdae are the children of the god Dagda and can live for nearly a thousand years, they possess an intuitive ability to communicate with the elements and nature. The caste has many advantages but is subject to the religious. The Laboras caste works to enrich those who defend it. The landscape is green, the Rhone flows in the middle of the marshes and the mountains are snowy. Creatures live in the caves and forests.
Crug must flee Octodurum; his acquaintances are a real danger to his life. Orwenn wants to recover the magic bracelet that Crug stole from him and the Bloody Lance is tracking him. With Bran, Denvleiz's best friend, Crug must convince Denvleiz to take him to his place. Crug cannot leave Octodurum alone, he would not survive the dangers that can be represented by: specters; vouivres; farfadets; spriggan; black wolf: helvètes; brigands. From the beginning, a bird follows him, he must learn to communicate with him and the other birds, for that he must find his father thanks to his amulet, he can also talk to the plants which stuns Denvleiz. In the end the Helvetians besiege Octodurum and Orwenn tries to seize power
